A round-trip ticket to Israel
for his wife and himself_.,:was
recently awarded to Morris )Elk,
sexton of Cong. Ahavas Achim
for the past 35 years.
The trip was the gift of the
congregation, and was pre-
sented at a recent sabbath
service by Abe Friedman, pres-
ident of Ahavas Achim.
In awarding the ticket, Fried-
man cited the "long and unin-
terrupted service" that Elk
had rendered to the synagogue,
dating from the time it was
located on Delmar Street to the
present.
The service marked the re-
tirement of Elk from his duties
as torah reader on the sabbath.
He will continue. however, to
supertise the regular week-day
services.
In addition to the congrega-
tional honors, the Ahavas
Achim sexton was the guest at
a surprise breakfast party given
by the daily worshipers on his
recent birthday. He was given
another gift on his occasion.
