Council Warns of Phony Solicitation: The Jewish Community Council this week issued a warning to residents of De- troit and the suburban areas against possible fraud by a young man selling magazine subscriptions door-to-door. The Council has received a number of complaints from individuals in the commun- ity who state that the maga- zine solicitor claims to be a relation of Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog of Israel and a nephew of .Rabbi Silver of Chicago. (The two noted Rabbi Silvers are Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, of Cleveland, and Rabbi Eliezer Silver, of Cincinnati. The young man, who goes by the name of Michael Sil- vers, claims to be a college student. Council officials are fairly certain that he is the same man who uses the name Martin Siegel to solicit sub- scriptions in the suburban areas. The authenticity of any solicitor claiming to be sent by, or related to, a person- ality in another community or country can easily . be established by calling - the Jewish Community Council, WO 2-6710.
