THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS — Fiday, June 5, 1959-8 Israel Bond Organization Welcomes General Weizmann Monday; Retiring Bond Leaders to Be Accorded honors Detroit's Israel Bond Organi- zation, looking forward to a record year in Bond sales in 1959, will welcome Gen. Ezer Weizmann, commander of the Israel Air Force, nephew of the late Dr. Chaim Weizmann, first President of Israel, and the son of the late Chilik Weizmann, one of Israel's distinguished leaders, at a dinner at the Sheraton - Cadillac Hotel, on Monday evening. Heartened by the quick re- sponse to the invitations is- sued for the dinner, Tom Borman, chairman of the 1959 Bond drive here, urged those desiring to attend to take ad- vantage of a number of in- vitations still available and to call the Bond office, WO. 2- 5091, to secure dinner accom- modations. Max Osnos has accepted the chairmanship of the dinner in honor of Gen. Weizmann. Osnos was the first chairman of Israel Bond drives in De- troit and has remained one of the active leaders in cal bond drives since Osnos 1951. Honors will be extended at the dinner to the retiring chair- man of last year's Israel Bond drive. Abe Kasle, and the retir- ing chairman of the Women's Division, Mrs. Philip Helfman. Mrs. Max Stollman will be honored by being named De- troit's sixth Woman of Valor, in recognition of her efforts for the Israel Bond drives. Gene Weizmann is a 35-year- old "Sabra" — a native of Israel. Formerly a Fighter Wing Commander and Chief of Operations of the Israel Air Force, he is one of Israel's out- standing flying heroes, having distinguished himself as a fight- er pilot with the RAF. in the War of Liberation and then in the Sinai Campaign. After completing his ser- vice with the RAF, at which time he saw action in North Africa, he returned to Pales- tine in 1947 when he started building an air force for the Haganah, the Jewish defense army. In 1948, when Israel's inde- pendence was proclaimed, Gen. Weizmann rose to the command of the first fighter squadron, which then consisted of a few obsolete World War II fighter planes. After completing his studies in England at the RAF Staff College in 1951. Gen. Citations will be presented to the teachers by Abe Kasle, retiring president of the schools. Kasle's annual report as president and Albert Elazar's report as superintendent will he among the features of the meeting. According to Interior Minis- ter Dr. Dufhues, the Arab Students League was sending 300 students to Bonn bearing posters with anti-Israel slogans.
