Israeli Couple Wed at Impressive
WSU Hillel Foundation Ceremony

At an impressive ceremony
at the Hillel Foundation of
Wayne State University, on
Lag b'Omer morning. Tuesday,
two young Israelis, Edy Har-
loff and Gideon Stern, were
united in marriage by Dr. Max
Kapustin, director of the WSU
Hillel Foundation.
•The bride is the daughter of
Prof. Mordecai and Shoshana

MRS. GIDEON STERN

Harloff, of Haifa. Her father is
a member of the faculty of the
Technion.
The bridegroom is the son
of Dr. Avraham and Aliza
Stern, of Petach Tikvah. Dr.
Stern is a well known Israeli
pediatrician.
In the absence of the cou-
ple's parents who were unable
to make the trip to this coun-
try, the two Israelis were given
in marriage by Mr. and Mrs.
Nathan Silverman whom the

bride had befriended in Israel
prior to coming to this country
and during her stay here.
In the bridal party also were
Jean Holtzman and Jacob I.
Alspector.
Rabbi Kapustin addressed
the couple in Hebrew and in
English. About 40 people,
whom the couple had be-
friended here, attended. the
ceremony.
Mrs. Stern served on the
staff of Camp Tamarack for
two months last summer, and
then was a shlicha for the
Pioneer Women and visited 44
American cities in behalf of
the women's labor Zionist or-
ganization. She had served at
the United Nations with Is-
rael's Foreign Minister, Golda
Meir. She is known in Israel
as "Little Golda," in recogni-
tion of her able services for
her government.
During her tour of Ameri-
can cities, she was honored on
many occasions and was given
the Key to the City in Balti-
more.
Mr. Stern was the youngest
pilot in the Israeli Air Force.
The couple met in St. Louis,
in February. They had known
each other prior to that time.
Mr. Stern is continuing his
Studies at St. Louis University.
The couple will make their
home, before returning to Is-
rael, at 650 Geoffry Lane, Uni-
versity City, Mo.

Launch Drive
for City of Hope
at Rally Monday

A rally is planned by the City
of Hope Cancer Fighters on
Monday, at Holiday Manor, to
officially kick off two clays of
intensive campaigning for the
Duarte, Calif., institution.
The rally will feature the
presentation by Council presi-
dent Mary V. Beck of a resolu-
tion signed by Mayor Miriani
declaring the week of June 1
to 8 as "Detroit Cancer Fighters
City of Hope Week."
The local group will conduct
a door-to-door solicitation cam-
paign on Wednesday and con-
tinue its fund-raising efforts
with a Tag Day on Thursday.
The City of , Hope, free, non-
sectarian medical center, is
dedicated to research and treat-
ment of catastrophic diseases,
including cancer, leukemia,. tu-
berculosis, heart diseases and
Hodgkin's disease.
Scientists from nine coun-
tries, including Russia, this

JPI to Graduate 14
at Exercises Sunday

Eight years of Sunday school
study in the Jewish Parents In-
stitute Club Eight will culmi-
nate in graduation for 14 young
men and women at 2:30 p.m.,
Sunday, in the Aaron DeRoy
Theater of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center, 18100 Meyers.
Graduates are Michael Bab-
itch, Elaine Bander, Lois Ber-
man, Andrea Cowan, Michael
Ellman, Barbara Feldstein, Da-
vid Halpert, Karen Hertz, Susan
Rose, Joel Silvers, Mark Sirot-
kin, Evelyn Sniderman, Amy
Wolf and William Wallace.
The graduation exercises, fea-
turing a prepared script by Bar-
bara Halpert, will be led by
Faith Bernstein. Jack Feldstein
is chairman of the program,
which will be followed by a-
reception.

TABASCO HAMBURGERS

3 pounds ground meat
1 cup chopped onions

CATERING

3 /4 cup chopped green pepper

2 cups hot barbecue sauce
Combine meat, onion and green pepper with 1/2 cup hot barbecue
sauce. Shape into 12 hamburgers. Broil, turning once and basting
frequently with hot barbecue sauce. Serve with remaining bar-
becue sauce.

HOT BARBECUE SAUCE
2 teaspoons Tabasco sauce
2 cups chopped onion
2 1/2 cups bottled chili sauce
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon chili peppers,
1 tablespoon brown. sugar
minced
1 bay leaf, crumbled
1 /2 cup lemon juice
1 teaspoon dry mustard
3 /4 cup oil
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons tarragon vinegar

Combine ingredients with 1/2 cup vooter. Bring to a boil, reduce
heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Serve with- hamburgers, Iamb
or chicken. Makes about 6 cups. Sauce may be kept covered
in a refrigerator for at least 1 week.
