Graduation Exercises

United Jewish High School
(Mittleshul) will hold its grad-
uation exercises at 8 p.m., Tues-
day, in the Esther Berman
Bldg., 18977 Schaefer.
David Forman, Saul Forman,
Judith Heideman, Arnold Kess-
ler, Marilyn Loren, Rosalyn
Loren, Michael Mogill, Irene
Sands, Sharon Stepack and
Paula Teach will be featured
in the graduation cantata "Jew-
ish People,
Past and Pres-
ent." Students
from other

The pro-
gram will be
conducted by
Samuel Sigal,
director of
United Jewish Sigal
Folk School. He will be assisted
by teachers Shoshana Freed-

behalf of United H e b r e w
Schools, with which Mittleshul
is affiliated. Louis LaMed will
represent the Jewish Welfare
Federation. and Prof. Shlomo
Marenof the Midrasha. Other
speakers will carry greetings
from Sholem Aleichem School,
United Jewish Folk School and
Workmen's Circle School. Wolf
Snyder will be the Mittleshul
speaker.
A social hour will follow. The
community is invited.

Church Choir Sings at Temple Centennial

A volunteer choir of 20 men
and women from eight Jackson
churches joined members of
Temple Beth Israel in celebra-
tion the Michigan congrega-
tion's 100th anniversary.
The choir was featured in a
program of liturgical music

Adas Shalom School
to Graduate 68
at Sunday Exercises

The 13th annual graduation
exercises of the Adas Shalom
Religious Schools will be held
at 10 a.m., Sunday, in the main
sanctuary.
There are 68 students in the
graduating class - . They will pre-
sent a cantata, "The Law God
Gave on Sinai," directed by
Maxwell Nadis and Mrs. Lama
Shetzer.
Services will be conducted by
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal, with the
welcoming hymn sung by Can-
tor Nicholas Fenakel and greet-
ings extended by school princi-
pal, Allen A. Warsen.
The invocation will be recited
by Nancy Grossman, and the
class gift is to be presented by
Suzanne Brodsky. Max Gold-
smith, newly-elected synagogue
president, will receive the gift.
The class symbol will be
transferred from graduate De-
anna Miller to Susan Schneyer
of the incoming graduation
class. Rabbi Segal will deliver
the main address, and diplomas
will be presented by David J.
Miller, chairman of the school,
and other members of the
school board.

sings on the sabbath to draw
from and few additional voices
capable of such a program,
Rabbi Morris Shapiro was on
the verge of dropping it from
the plans for the celebration.
When an - organist from Jack-
son's First Methodist Church,
Edward Crowle, heard of the
predicament, he gathered choir
members from the eight
churches.
The performances was wit-
nessed by 350 members of the
congregation. Other events to
be presented include programs
by the Sisterhood, youth group,
former rabbis and the local
Bnai Brith Lodge.

Northwest Young Israel
Youth to Hold Service

Members of the Youth Group
of Young Israel of Northwest
Detroit will conduct the com-
plete sabbath morning services
of the congregation this Sat-
urday.
According to Eddie Belkin,
president of the group, - partici-
pants in the service will be
Barry Operman, Alan Sukenic,
Jerry Butromovitz, nary e y
Blitz, Michael Butromovitz and
Arthur Weiss.
Ten-year-old Jerry Blitz will
deliver the sermon on "The
Message from Mt.. Sinai." As-
sisting the youth in preparing
the service is Rev. Marshall
Goldman, youth director of the
congregation.

Major Organizations Urge
Members to Join Tribute
to Dr. Hershman Tuesday

Major Detroit organizations
have issued calls to their mem-
bers to join in the memorial
tribute to Dr. A. M. Hershman,
at the full hour Ma'ariv service
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek,
at 8:30 p.m. next Tuesday.
Members of the following

to Induct New Officers

Newly-elected officers of the
Evergreen Jewish Congregation
will be installed and will parti-
cipate in a special late sabbath
service at 8:45 p.m., today.
Rabbi Hyman Agress will con-
duct the ceremony, the first
such installation ceremony in
the newly - constructed syna-
gogue.
Participating in the service
are Dave Simon, Izzy Silverman,
Ray Bernstein, Franklin Levy,
Dan Sloan, Samuel Wither, Babe
Marshak, Meyer King, Morrey
Kanter, Max Pleasant; Hy Kin-
zer and Harry Shiovitz.
The community is invited to
participate in the service.

Hershman was actively inter-
ested, were especially asked to
join with the Shaarey Zedek
congregation in honoring the
deceased rabbi and community
leader: Mizrachi-Hapoel Hamiz-
rachi, Jewish National Fund,
United Hebrew Schools, Jewish
Welfare Federation, Zionist Or-
ganization, Jewish Community
Council.
The memorial service will be
conducted by Cantors J. H. So-
nenklar and R. Frankel and the
Shaarey Zedek Choir. Rabbi
Morris Adler will deliver the
memorial address. Judge Theo-
dore Levin will be the chair-
man.

Dr. Hershman dedicated himself during the last glorious years of his life to support of
the great Israel Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan. He was the honorary president of
the League of Religious Labor; the creator and the head of the Bar-Ilan Michigan
Academicians' Committee and an ardent believer in the principles of Mizrachi. We
pay tribute to the memory of this distinguished scholar and leader, whose name is
being perpetuated in Bar-Ilan University.
