Plan to Aid Israel Foreign Investment Weizmann Institute Hebrew School Graduates Plan Plans Symposium Camp Tamarack Weekend Outing on Cancer Causation WASHINGTON, (JTA) — American investors would be encouraged to make invest- ments in Israel under a new concept which gained impetus when the U.S. Treasury Depart- ment said it would support a Congressional move to provide tax relief for American busi- nessmen specifically to encour- age investment in the Middle East and other underdeveloped areas. The Treasury Department's position was outlined in a re- port to the House Ways and Means Committee, which origi- nates all tax legislation. The Treasury Department said it would favor use of tax incen- tives "to promote flow of U.S. capital into the less developed regions of the free world." The Middle East was specially men- tioned, and it was clear that Israel was included. The moves that the Treasury Department would support in- cluded deferral of tax on in- come derived by a business cor- poration which obtains sub- stantially all of its income from investments in one or more of the less developed areas of the world; ordinary loss treatment for losses incurred by original investors on stock of such cor- porations; and early imple- mentation of principle of tax sparing in order to make it possible for American firms inv esting in underdeveloped countries to benefit from tax inducements offered by such a country to attract new capital. Representatives of the graduating classes of the seven branches of the United Hebrew Schools meet with faculty advisor, Rabbi EMANUEL APPLEBAUM, to plan a three-day camping program this weekend at Camp Tamarack. Plays, skits, discussions, Israeli singing and dancing will be combined with recreational and supplementary educational activities, with the central theme being "Torah."
