ist and communal leader, was

honored, in a special resolution,
for the completion of 25 years
of service as executive director
of the Jewish National Fund of
America. The resolution, which
was introduced by the presi-
dent, Dr. Harris J. Levine, and
unanimously adopted by the
board of directors of the JNF,
lauds Fisher for "the excep-
tional ability and consecrated
devotion with which he has pur-
sued his high task over this
long period of years, winning
great multitudes of friends for
our work and contributing vast-
ly to the growth and expansion
of JNF activities in hundreds
of Jewish communities through-
out the length and breadth of
this country." It expresses to
Mr. Fisher "the deepest grati-
tude for a superlative job done
in the face of great and mount-
ing difficulties."

Book Council to Make
Awards for Best Books

Citations and cash prizes to-
talling $800 will be awarded to
the authors of 1958's best works
of Jewish interest in the fiction,
poetry and juvenile fields at the
annual meeting of the Jewish
Book Council of the National
Jewish Welfare Board, it was
announced by Rabbi A. Alan
Steinbach, Brooklyn, Council
president. The meeting will be
held- May 20 at the World Af-
fairs Center, 345 E. 46th St.,
New York, at 8 p.m.
Maurice Samuel, noted lectur-
er, literary critic and novelist,
and author of the "World of
Sholom Aleichem," will present
readings from his work. The
program is in honor of the cen-
tenary of the birth of Sholom
Aleichem.
