Membership in GATT
Is Sought by Israel

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—Israel
has applied officially for mem-
bership in the General Agree-
ment on Traffic and Trade
(GATT) and the application will
be considered at the 14th an-
nual meeting of GATT in Ge-
neve on May 11.
The 37 GATT Members ac-
cord each other most-favored na-
tion status and bar trade dis-
crimination in imports and ex-
ports with provision for arbitra-
tion of trade disputes. Israel
hopes GATT membership will
help to expand trade relations.
