Ypsilanti State Hospital, in
cooperation with the Michigan
Society for Mental Health and
in observance of the 11th Na-
tional Mental Health Week, will
hold open house from 1 to 5
p.m., Sunday.
A special invitation to the
Jewish community to attend the
program, which is being called
"Operation Friendship," was is-
sued by Rabbi Soloman H. Grus-
kin, Jewish chaplin at the hos-
pital.
Rabbi Gruskin cited the fact
that the institution is the only
one in the area with a special
Jewish chapel. More than 150
Jewish patients use its facilities.
The rabbi said. "By visiting,
one lends encouragement to
both the patient and the hospi-
tal personnel. A most cordial
welcome will be accorded to all
visitors."
The open house will include
tours of the hospital and its fac-
ilities, displays, exhibits and
movies on mental health and
refreshments.
The state-wide program is ex-
pected to draw 34,000 visitors
into all of its hospitals—one for
every hospitalized patient. Over
4,100 patients are being cared
for at Ypsilanti State Hospital.
