Rebuke Gruening
for Lodging at
`Restricted' Hotel

MIAMI (JTA)—Sharp criti-
cism of Sen. Ernest Gruening,
who is of Jewish origin, for
stopping at a hotel here which
is "restricted" and does not
welcome Jewish guests, was
published here in the Jewish
Floridian under the signature of
Leo Mindlin, executive editor of
the paper. Sen. Gruening was
in Miami to address a Jewish
function.
Mindlin reported that he had
called Sen. Gruening at the Key
Biscayne Hotel and told him
that the hotel "does not accept
Jewish guests." He quoted the
Alaska senator as replying that
"I don't care to get involved."
Subsequently in the discus-
sion, Mindlin reported, the
senator denied the hotel barred
Jews and argued that Vic e
President Nixon and other im-
portant personalities stayed at
the hotel.
The occasion for Sen. Gruen-
ing's visit to Miami was to ad-
dress a testimonial dinner given
by Temple Israel in honor of
Sam C. Levenson, its president.
Proceeds of the dinner, totalling
$136,500 went to the Mt. Sinai
Hospital Development Fund.

Romanian Emigration
May Be Resumed, .
Meir-Many Talks Hint

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The
Romanian Minister to Israel,
Dr. Petru Many, called at the
Foreign Ministry and conferred
extensively with Golda Meir,
the Foreign Minister.
It was understood that the
meeting was at Mrs. Meir's re-
quest and that the subject of
the discussion was the ques-
tion of resumption of Jewish
emigration from Romania to
Israel to permit the reunion of
families. No details of the
talk were disclosed.
There has been considerable
hope here during the past
weeks that the emigration,
which was abruptly inter-
rupted last month for undis-
closed reasons, would be re-
sumed soon in line with the hu-
manitarian principle of reunion
of families advanced by the
Romanian government.
