Name-O-Plate New
Convenience Given
by American Saving

American Savings has intro-
duced for the first time in this
area another convenience for
savers.
Adolph Deutsch, president of
American Savings, announces
that the new service. Name-0-
Plate, is now available to ac-
count holders, without charge,
at all seven offices.
A permanent identification
plate, Name-O-Plate saves time
when placing funds in or with-
drawing funds from a savings
account, serves as identification
for check cashing and helps
establish credit with business
firms.
Mr. Deutsch disclosed that a
survey indicated that a sub-
stantial majority of employed
men and women stated one of
the reasons they did not save
regularly at a savings institu-
tion is that they were too
pressed for time. This prompted
American Savings to look for a
new method of speeding up
service to savings account hold-
ers. And the result was Name-
0-Plate.

St. Paul Community
to Survey Needs

ST. PAUL, Minn. (JTA) —
The United Jewish Welfare
Fund and Council has approved
a survey of the Jewish commun-
ity's current program and fu-
ture needs in the field of cul-
tural, recreational and leisure
time activities. The survey will
be launched in the fall.
The fund's social planning
committee will seek participa-
tion the survey of all agen-
cies and institutions having
leisure time programs.
Ted Abramson, president of
the fund, pointed out that this
would be the first survey since
1948.
He pointed out that since that
time "there have been major
shifts of Jewish population,
major changes in institutional
facilities and major develop-
ments in the respective roles of
the various agencies and insti-
tutions."

A sack of 600 silver dollars is presented by 14-year-old
Alan Parter, president of the student council of the Larchmont
(N. Y.) Temple Religious School, to Simcha Pratt, Israel
Consul-General at New York, as Mrs. Henry Goldman, of
Hadassah, U.S. chairman for Youth Aliyah Child's Day, looks
on. The money, collected by students during a silver dollar
campaign for Youth Aliyah, will cover the cost of maintaining
one child for one year in an Israeli Youth Aliyah institution.

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Several
thousand jazz addicts—the larg-
est crowd ever assembled at
Lydda Airport to greet an ar-
rival—turned out to welcome
Louis (Satchmo) Armstrong and
his seven-man jazz combination
on their arrival for a quick
tour of the country.
The throng was headed by
a local jazz ensemble which
blared a hot welcome as the
crowd cheered and surged
around. American embassy of-
ficials there to welcome the jazz
king could hardly push their
way through the enthusiasts.
Armstrong told Israeli re-
porters that he carried a golden
Mogen David as a good-luck
charm.
Armstrong and his band were
to give a series of concerts in
Tel Aviv and other Israeli
2
cities.
