Israel Tourist Service
Opens Chicago Office

Opening of a branch of the
Israel Government Tourist Ser-
vice in Chicago was announced
this week by I. D. Unna, di-
rector of information, Consulate
General of Israel in Chicago.
Meir Vidar, of Jerusalem,
who has served for the past two
years as assistant director of
the IGTS in New York, will
direct the new office at 5 S.
Wabash, Suite 1604, Chicago.
The branch is being opened
to serve the growing tourist
trade to Israel, which showed
a 100 percent increase in the
Midwest and Southwest in 1958.
A continued upsurge in travel
to Israel is also predicted in
1959, based on bOokings to date.



Pinchas Cruso to Speak
at Branch 11 Meeting

Pinchas Cruso, national pres-
ident of the Labor Zionist Or-
ganization of America, will ad-
dress members of Branch 11 at
a special meeting planned for
9 p.m., Saturday, in the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Sol Drachler,
18019 Santa Barbara.
Cruso, who also is managing
editor of the Jewish Frontier,
will speak on the LZOA's re-
lationships to the present-day
political scene. A question and
answer period and a social hour
will follow.
Reservations are now being
taken for the group's third se-
der,' to be held April 25, in
the home of the Robert Kan-

Bnai Brith Institute
Held This Weekend
in Mount Clemens

The annual Bnai Brith Insti-
tute on Judaism will be held
this weekend at the Colonial
Hotel in Mount Clemens, under
the joint auspices of the Met-
ropolitan Detroit Bnai Brith
Council, the Greater Detroit
Women's Bnai Brith Council
and the Michigan. Men's and
Women's Councils.
Beginning with a dinner this
evenin gand closing Sunday
with a luncheon, the institute
will highlight the overall
theme, "Patterns of Our Past
Pathways to Our Future."
Faculty members are Dr.
Selig Adler, University of Buf-
falo professor; and Dr. Shlomo
S. Marenof, dean of the Mid-
rasha, College of Jewish
Studies, Detroit.
Heading the institute com-
mittee are Melvin Weisz and
Mrs. Paul Liebert, representing
District Grand Lodge No. 6;
Maurice Zeiger and Mrs. Dor-
othy Bodson, of the Detroit
Councils.

Chop the above ingredients
until they are well blended.
Spread the chopped meat on 4
slices of shoulder steak, each
steak weighing about 1/2 pound.
Roll the steak and fasten with
tooth pick, then place into a
frying pan, and brown on all
sides. Put into a roasting pan,
and pour the gravy mixed with
1 /2 cup water and 2 tablespoons
catsup over them. Bake in a
moderate oven for one hour.

STRAWBERRY STRUDEL
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons oil
3 cups lukewarm water
1 cup strawberry jam
lh cup bread crumbs
;/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup chopped nuts

Knead a soft dough and roll
out to Vs ineh thickness. Stretch
with the fingers to make it very
thin. Brush with salad oil and
sprinkle with 1/4 cup sugar, that
has been mixed with 1 teaspoon
cinnamon, and one cup chopped
nuts. Spread 1 cup strawberry
jam that has been mixed with
1/2 cup bread crumbs. Form a
roll, slice, place into a greased
baking pan and bake in a mod-
erate oven for 30 minutes.

Warsen to Submit
Design of New Flag
for Ike's Consideration

Allen Warsen, director of
the Adas Shalom Religious
School and history teacher at
Cody High School, is planning
to submit a design to Presi-
dent Eisenhower for a new
flag, which would incorporate
the newly added 50th state —
Hawaii.

The flag will retain the
standard seven red and six
white stripes as a background,
while the field in the upper
left corner is designed in cir-
cular form, symbolic of the
position of the United States
in the world today.

There will be one star in

Annual Sports Night
the middle of the field, and
seven spokes of seven stars
of Pisgah Lodge Mon. each
extending from the center.

Pisgah Lodge 34, Bnai Brith,
will have its annual sports
night Monday at the Hayim
Greenberg Center, 19161 Schae-
fer.
Members of the Detroit Tigers
Baseball Team will be present
and a film, "Tiger Town,
U.S.A.," will be shown. Detroit
News Teen Master Bowling
Team, recent winners in a top
bowling exhibition match, will
be present.
Bruce Martin, WCAR radio
sportscaster, and Ben Dunn,
Detroit 'News bowling sports
editor, will '_,Induct a question
and answer period.
Admission is free. Members
and friends are invited.

Silvermans Purchase L aFond Tobacco Firm

Operation of M. A. LaFond,
Inc., nationally famous tobac-
conists, has been assumed by
Leslie Silverman, of Sussex
Ave.., who recently purchased
the 73 - year - old firm, which
maintains a retail outlet at 616
Woodward. The business is ad-
ministered by Silverman and
his father, Morris.
A member of Bnai Brith,
Cong. Beth Itzchock and Beth
Aaron Synagogue, Leslie Silver-
man said that the firm would
continue with its six custom,
private blends of pipe tobacco,
which are sold from coast to
coast. Recently, the firm added
a seventh blend.

Sinai Women's Guild
Sets Luncheon Meeting

Sinai Hospital Women's Guild
will hold its annual meeting
and luncheon at 12:15 p.m., May
1, in the new Wayne County
Medical Society Bldg., 1010
Antietam.
A skit, "The Pulse Comes to
Life," will be a featured por-
tion of the program. The
