Neu, Reservoir for Jerusalem

Israel's Finance Minister Levi Eshkol (right) is shown opening
a valve this week to permit water to flow into a new reservoir
which will eliminate the danger of a water shortage in Jerusa-
tem. The reservoir, which involved a cost of $1,100,000, was
built with the aid of Israel Bond funds.

French Zionists Call for Dismissal
of President Following Snub

PARIS (JTA)—The action of
Andre Blumel, president of the
French Zionist Federation, in
attending a Sholom Aleichem
centenary meeting sponsored by
French Jewish Communists, and
remaining away from a similar
meeting sponsored by the
French Zionist movement, was
severely censured by the French
Labor Zionist movement.
The Labor Zionists said the
present situation of the French
Zionist Federation was "inad-
missible." They denied their
stand against the president was

Anti-Israel Stand
Hurts Arabs, B-G Says

PARIS (.JTA) — "The quar-
rels which the Arab states pick
with us do more harm to the
Arab states than to Israel," Is-
rael's Prime Minister David
Ben-Gurion declared in an in-
terview published in Le Monde,
one of the • most influential
newspapers in this country. "It
is with sharp regret," B e n-
Gurion told Le Monde's corres-
pondent in Israel, "that we see
no signs of stability, much less
of collaboration among our
neighbors, even among them-
selves."
The Israel Premier expressed
the opinion that the Arab
nations "will finish by living
under regimes that they will
choose." These regimes, he said,
will understand the importance
of higher standards of living,
and will not fear to introduce
collaboration between Israel
and the Arab world. Ben-Gurion
described, in the interview, at
some length, how Israel is help-
ing the sovereignties in Asia
and Africa.

Israel Captures Egyptian
Fishing Boat Trespassing

TEL AVIV (JTA)—A small
Egyptian fishing boat from the
Gaza Strip was captured by an
Israeli sea patrol in Israeli
waters near Ashkelon. The
boat was towed to Haifa where
its crew of three was detained,
pending an investigation.
Israel officials reported that
the Syrians were building two
villages for servicemen on the
border overlooking Hulata near
Lake Huleh, scene of repeated
attacks from Syrian gunners
at Israel reclamation efforts.
The villages would be inhab-
ited by regular Syrian troops
and their families. Each village
will include some 60 stone
houses.

taken for reasons of "party poli-
tics," and urged all other French
Zionist groups to take "a clear
stand" on the issue.
It was reported that Blumel's
opponents planned to ask for
his resignation, and were seek-
ing to force a meeting - of the
Federation in a bid for that ac-
tion. A Federation meeting
scheduled for this week was
cancelled, and the Federation
said it could not hold a meeting
next week because of "other
commitments."
The Labor Zionists indicated
they wanted the other parties
in the Federation to compel a

Federation. His opponents also
were planning to press for a
change in control of the Fed-

three-man board of directors,
rather than Blumel alone, would
be in charge.

B-G Hits Young Judea
for Failing in Aliyah

TEL AVIV (JTA) — The
Young Judea movement in the
United States was severely
criticized by Israel Premier
David Ben-Gurion for not en-
couraging emigration of Ameri-
can Jewish youth to Israel. He
said that Young Judea's allega-
tion of backing Zionist a n d
Jewish slogans are not borne
out by facts, since the organi-
zation "does not fulfill its youth
emigration aims." He spoke at
a convention of the Israel Boy
Scout movement attended by
Young Judea representatives.
The Jewish Agency reported
that a total of 1,000 young
Zionists have come to Israel for
a year of pioneer work in
border settlements in the three
years since the plan was started
by the Agency. Four hundred
came from Argentina, 180 from
South Africa, 60 each f r o m
Canada and the United States,
and the remainder from other
countries. One hundred of the
th6usand people settled perma-
nently in farm settlements.
