superiority of the powerful
Wehrmacht. Despite the appar-
ently hopeless odds, the ghet-
toes in Warsaw, in Vilna, in
Bialostok, and other isolated
communities which used to be
heavily populated with Jewish
inhabitants, rose up against the
Nazi oppressor. The resistance
spread to the death camps as
well. In the extermination cen-
ters at Treblinka and Sobibor,
the Jews organized in "Fight-
ing Fives." At a prearranged
moment they threw themselves
fiercely upon the German and
Ukrainian guards whom they
either killed or disarmed. Then
they burned down the gas cham-
bers and the crematories, and
escaped to the neighboring for-
ests.

gram in tribute to the anniver-
sary of Jewish heroism may be

Council office, 163 Madison,

denly wreak havoc to a family
with two young children. While
the mother begins the long road
back to health, and the father
works night and day toward eco-
nomic solvency, what happens
to the children?
In the above instance, the
youngsters became two of the
many children of all ages who
find themselves placed tempo-
rarily in a good foster home by
the Jewish Family and Chil-
dren's Service until the emer-
gency is over.
But, the JFCS says they must
be placed in a "good" foster
home and with foster parents
that will be "best" for a "partic-
ular" child or children.
Foster parents are sought who
have P
nuine desire to help a
child and who can treat a child
as if he were one of their own.
At the same time, these foster
parents should be willing to
share the - child with his own
parents who have not abandon-
ed interest in the youngster,
but have only temporarily lost
the ability to take care of him.
Those in the community in-
terested in becoming foster par-
ents should make inquiries to
Mrs. Barbara Mandell at the
JFCS office, which is presently
located at 13327 Linwood, TO.
8-2490.
After May 1, the agency will
move its offices to 10801 Curtis,
adjoining the new Jewish Com-
munity Center.
JFCS is a community-spon-
sored agency, which is support-
ed by the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign and the United Founda-
tion.
