Germany to Auction Hidden Works of Heine MARBURG (JTA)—A special auction will be held this month in this old German university town of recently discovered manuscripts left by Heinrich Heine. The manuscripts, including some historical notes, were found in Paris where the great German-Jewish poet died in 1956. Heine had been anathema to Germans even before the Hitler regime when his works were banned by the Nazis. The auc- tioning of Heine works here is considered a manifestation of the new Germany's attitude toward the Jewish people. Greenblatt Dies; Brought 42 Orphans to Canada in 1927 Nathan Greenblatt, a Detroit building contractor, who was in the forefront of a move- ment to bring a group of refugee orphans from Europe in the 1920's, died on March 31. He had resided at 2981 Clements. Mr. Greenblatt, a native of Russia who at one time served in the Czar's Army, came to the United States early in the century. After entering the contracting business in New York, he moved to Detroit in 1914 when the Ford Motor Co. made changes in its hourly Work day and he saw a boom developing here. Here, he was a founder of the Mezeritcher Aid Society, which raised funds to aid residents of his old home town, just east of Warsaw. In 1927, he sought to bring a group of orphans to this country, but because of the quota restrictions placed on Polish emigration by the Im- migration Act of 1924, Mr. Greenblatt learned it was im- possible to gain U.S. entry for them. He went to Ottawa, the Cana- dian capitol, and there learned that he could bring the or- phans to Canada. After a trip to Warsaw to clear away the red tape, a group of 42 or- phans was brought to George- town, a community just west of Toronto. Here, the Mezeritcher Society built a dormitory, hired a manager and established the youngsters in productive efforts. Many of the group later con- tributed much toward making Toronto the leading garment center of Canada. Services for Mr. Greenblatt were held at Ira Kaufman Chapel on Thursday. He leaves his wife, Anna; two sons, Michael Greene and Albert Greenblatt; seven grandsons and a great granddaughter.
