in the main sanctuary.
Guest artists will be Mischa
Mischakoff, concertmaster of
the Detroit Symphony Orches-
tra, and Emma Schaver, con-
cert and recording artist
whose Yiddish and Hebrew
songs have been praised by
critics throughout the world.
Mischakoff will play two se-
lections from Bloch's Baal
Shem Suite for Violin, "Vidui"
and "Nigun." Mrs. Schaver
will sing the composer's .mov-
ing "By the Rivers of Baby-
lon," based on the 137th
Psfam.
An augmented choir, under
the direction of Jason H. Tick-
ton, temple organist and mu-
sic director, will feature John
Redfield as cantorial soloist.
Bloch, who is considered one
of the great contemporary
composers, believes the "Sa-
cred Service"—"Avodeth -Kako-
dash"—one of his crowning
works.
Its setting, based in the Re- I
form service used in the United
States, originates from the
psalms, Deuteronomy, E x odus,
Isaiah, Proverbs and other spir-
itual sources.

Rabbi Rothschild
to Speak Wednesday

of Atlanta, Georgia, as guest
speaker in the Brown Memorial
Chapel of Temple Beth El,

p.m. Wednesday.

whose temple was bombed a few
months ago. He will speak . on
"Violence .and its aftermath."

A year after its ground-
breaking ceremony, the Ever-
green Jewish Congregation
has announced plans for the
dedication of its new syna-
gogue social hall on Ever-
green Rd., near W. 7 Mile.
The program calls for a
weekend of festivities, April
17, 18 and 19, beginning with
a late sabbath eve service
and concluding with the ac-
tual ceremony of dedication.
On Saturday evening, April
18, there will be a dedication
ball.
The public is invited to
join the congregation in cel-
ebrating the occasion. Open
House will follow the Sun-
day dedicatory ceremonies.

ism is being undertaken at
Har Sinai Temple, Trenton,
N.J., in a series of three

Passover Packages
Sold Out by CARE

C. R. Deane, Michigan field
director for CARE, this week
announced that the supply of
special Passover packages for
Israel has already been ex-
hausted.
He explained that CARE
makes up only a certain num-
ber of the Passover packages
by contractual agreement with
the Israel government.
Deane added, however, that
CARE's other two food pack-
ages for Israel—priced at $10
and $18.25 — are available
'throughout the year. These
packages may be sent now, al-
through delivery for Passover

livery, he said, ranges from
three to six weeks.

Get Letter from Ben-Zvi

The first-graders at Hillel
Day School have just received
a letter from Israel President
Itzhak Ben-Zvi in reply to a
letter and tree certificate sent
him in honor of Israel's Inde-
pendence celebration. Both the
students' and Ben-Zvi's letters
were written in Hebrew.

Community Passover Sedo-
rim, believed to be the largest
ever held in the United States,
will be conducted by Metro-
politan Opera Company tenor
Jan Peerce, April 22 and 23,
in Miami Beach, Fla.
Some 4,000 residents and va-
cationers will • be able to at-
tend the sedorim, being held
in the new Exhibition Hall, on
each of the two nights.
The sedorim are sponsored
by Cong. Agudath Israel, of
which Dr. Isaac Rirsch Ever is
rabbi. He will supervise the
observance of dietary laws.
