Romanian Emigration Is Product of Zionism, Redelheim Tells ZOD "Zionist concepts which were conceived to shape events in the Jewish historical process are dramatically evident in the movement of Jews from Ro- mania to Israel," Abraham Redelheim, president of the Zionist Organization of Am- erica told a large audience of Detroit Jews Wednesday night. Speaking at a meeting of the Zionist Organization of Detroit, held at Beth Aaron Synagogue, Redelheim stated that "the strong element of inevitability in this latest ingathering of Jews into Israel was spelled out by Theodor Herzl before the turn of the century, and it has been repeatedly con- firmed during the, • 60 years that followed. "And history is again under- scoring the correctness of the Zionist thesis that a free and independent Jewish state is in- dispensable for solution of the Jewish problem in whatever form or circumstance it may occur." The ZOA leader continued, "If there were no state of Israel today, these Jews would be without hope." He said that the emigration from Romania imposes "special obligations on those of us who* view the prob- lem not merely in terms of philanthropy." He called for the strengthen- ing of Zionist organizational apparatus and full activation of each district and region, and urged ZOD leaders to take the lead in behalf of the United Jewish Appeal, Israel Bond drive and other vital efforts on Israel's behalf. Redelheim said that Egypt's Premier Nasser has again given the "big lie" to the new influx of emigrees- by stating that there are pro-Communist implications in the latest ex- odus. "One must be hopelessly gul- lible to be taken in by this new bit of topsy-turvy argu- mentation," he said. He warned, however, that Zionists must be on guard against the Arab propaganda machine. The ZOA president outlined a four-point program to fulfill the goals of Zionism in Am- erica today. These are; 1. The extension and expan- sion of work in the public relations sphere to mobilize public opinion in support of Israel's political independence and territorial integrity; 2. Maintaining "the banner unity" of the Jewish people throughout the world by Israel- Diaspora relations - a major concern; 3. Revitalizing the approach to the Zionist youth program through emphasis on the He- brew language and literature and continuing work in the field of Aliyah; and 4. Providing greater applica- tion to the problems of the American Jewish community "so that the Zionist approach, rather than defense psychology Burton Holmes Film on Israel Presents Colorful Portrait of State or the old philanthropic ap- proach, shall provide character and form to American Jewish thought and action:" At a dinner at the Sheraton- Cadillac Hotel given by some 50 local Zionist leaders, Abra- ham Borman, president of the ZOD, presented Redelheim with a $2,000 check for the American Zionist_ Fund.
