Young Israel Expands
Facilities for Banquets

Mrs. Fayga Dombey, presi-
dent of the Sisterhood of Young
Israel Center of Oak-Woods,
this week announced completion
of a project to furnish neces-
sary equipment to meet the
growing needs "for adequate
banquet facilities in the area.

Burdick Proposes
Long-Term Loans
for College Students

Norris, Wise, Baum Show Well in Poll of Bar Ass'n.

Local attorneys, members of
the Detroit Bar Association,
were recently polled on how
they would rate candidates for
judgeships in the coming April
6 election.
Over half of the 3,071 mem-
bers of the Bar Association re-
sponded to the poll, which is.
considered significant because it
is the lawyers who best know
the qualifications of their col-
leagues.
In the race for the Common
Pleas bench, Harold Norris re-
ceived the greatest number of
preferred votes among the non-
incumbents. The three present
judges led the poll, with Norris
qualifying for the fourth judge-
ship post.
Following Norris, who had
326 preferred votes and 270
qualified votes, was Charles
Kaufman with 188 preferred
votes and 270 qualified votes.
Among the 18 Wayne County
Circuit Judges to be elected, the
Bar poll showed that Judge Vic-
tor J. Baum, with 806 preferred
votes was •in eighth place among
the 15 incumbents.

Burdick himself is well aware
of the difficulties encountered
in financing a university educa-
tion. He graduated in 1928 with
Wayne State's first law class,
after working full-time during
the day to pay for his tuition in
night school.
A practicing attorney for over
30 years, Burdick is a member
of several civic, religious and
professional organizations. He
pointed out that since this is
the first time a Board of Gover-
nors is being elected for WSU
as a state university, all regis-
tered voters in Michigan are
eligible to cast ballots for the
position.
Burdick lives at 19515 Roslyn,
with his wife, Mary, and two
children, James, 15, and
Andrea, 16.
