Samuel Adinoff, a resident of
Port Huron for 31 years, was
recently awarded that city's an-
nual Human Relations Award in
conjunction with the commu-
nity's observance of Brother-
hood Week.
The dinner was attended by
nearly 200 persons, largest at-
tendance in the five-year history
of the award, which is given by
the Community Relations Board.
Mr. Adinoff, who has been
particularly active in the United
Jewish Appeal and Jewish Na-
tional Fund campaigns, was the
unanimous choice for the award,
which recognized his "outstand-
ing contribution to improving
inter-group relations and civic
betterment."
The award was accepted by
Mr. Adinoff, but the prepared
response was read by a personal
friend, Thomas Jones, because
of Mr. Adinoff's current illness.
In his remarks, Mr. Adinoff
had written, "Our country is a
living demonstration that all
people can live together as one
family. There is no other coun-
try like it. When bigotry raises
its head," he continued, "speak
up. Speak up for justice, for
fair play and decency."
Principal speaker at the pro-
gram was Richard V. Marks,
secretary-director of the Com-
mission on • Community Rela-
tions for Detroit. Mr. Adinoff is
now retired after having served
as a chemist with St. Clair Rub-
ber Co. for 28 years.
