2 Babies $110 Richer
on Bank's Birthday
Two March 5 babies are $110
richer because they shared the
same birthday with the Detroit
Bank & Trust Company, which
celebrated its 110th anniversary.
Michigan's oldest bank ob-
served its "Faith in the Future"
birthday by offering a $110 sav-
ings account to the first Detroit-
area baby born on March 5, and
$5 savings accounts for all other
Detroit and suburban children
born on that day.
A check of 51 hospitals in the
city and suburbs revealed that
an Oak Park girl and a Wayne
boy arrived at precisely 12:01
a.m.
Because of the tie, the De-
troit Bank & Trust Company
had passbooks prepared for $110
each for Sherry Lee Wein,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rus-
sell Wein of 24341 Blackstone,
Oak Park; and Mark A. Robbins,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rob-
bins of 33100 Shawnee Trail,
Wayne. Sherry Wein was born
at Woman's Hospital and Mark
Robbins was born at William
Beaumont Hospital in Royal
Oak.
Raymond T. Perring, presi-
dent of the bank, visited both
mothers and made the presen-
tation of the bank books.
The Detroit Bank & Trust
Company, Michigan's oldest
', ank, was founded on M^rcil 5.
"949, as the Detroit Savings
_r-und Institute.
The entire month of March
has been decreed by the De-
partment of Michigan Jewish
War Veterans as membership
month. During this period, an
all-out effort is beiwz conduct-
ed to increase the ranks of the
organization.
As part of the campaign. each
post is carrying out an educa-
tional program to acquaint Jew-
ish veterans with the accom-
plishments, goals and purposes
of JWV.
Among its chief activities,
the veterans organization as-
sists in programs for hospital-
ized veterans and their fam-
ilies, helps to combat prejudice
and carries out educational cam-
paigns.
