Folk singer Theodore Bikel
will appear at Masonic Temple
at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in a pro-
gram of selections from his 17.
language repertoire. He will ac-
company himself on the guitar
and will also present dramatic
readings.
Bikel, who appeared here re-
cently as headliner in a Pioneer
Women donor program, has
been nominated for an academy
award for his portrayal in "The
Defiant Ones." He has appeared
in some 20 films, on Broadway,
and on TV. But he still consid-
ers himself primarily a ‘ folk
singer. In this capacity he has
been universally acclaimed,
playing to sell-out audiences
wherever he appears.
He has recorded five albums
of folk songs, with a sixth of
Hebrew and Yiddish due soon.
He sings songs of, all nations in
their original language. Among
his albums are "JewiSh Folk
Songs," and "Folk Songs of
Israel."
Bikel's apearance here is part
of a national tour, which is be-
coming an annual affair because
of popular demand.
