Mrs. Comay Reveals
Romania Gave Exit
Order Yom Kippur
Joan Comay, the wife of
Michael Comay, former Israel
Ambassador to Canada and
presently a member of the
Israel Foreign Office in Jeru-
salem, during her brief stay
here last week, revealed that
the first news of the change
in the Romanian government's
position to permit Jews to
leave for Israel became known
last Yom Kippur.
Speaking to a group from the
Women's Division of the De-
troit Israel Bond Organization,
at the home of Mrs. J. Philip
Levant, 1660 Lincolnshire, Mrs.
Comay said that Yom Kippur
was chosen so that all Jews
could be reached by Romanian
authorities with the informa-
tion that they could leave.
She said the reason Romania
wants her Jews to leave is be-
cause they are not considered
good Communists.
All the arrivals in Israel
from Romania bring with them
the same type of luggage —
the lightest weight to enable
them to bring with them the
maximum amount of their pos-
sessions. They use the term
"liberated" for the clothing
they succeed in rescuing after
leavirig the Romanian border.
The average age of the Ro-
manian Jews arriving in Israel
is 32, Mrs. Comay said. There
are 120,000 of them who have
applied for exit visas, she
stated.
The group at the luncheon re-
sponded to Mrs. Comay's .mes-
sage by purchasing $45,000 in
Israel Bonds.

Many small Bequests
help to build Israel
If the tradition of including the Jewish
National Fund in the Will of every Jew
were invariably followed, resources would
be accumulated to ensure the future of the
young Jewish State on a sound basis of land
development, social welfare, and justice.
A bequest to the Jewish National Fund
should be as traditional as having a Blue
Box in one's house.
You may desire that your bequest shall
be dedicated to afforestation, to a village,
to perpetual yahrzeit or kaddish, or to some
form of permanent memorial in the names
of persons dear to you.
Consult the Foundation for Jewish
National Fund, 18414 Wyoming, UN
4-2767. They will gladly co-operate
with you in working out plans to meet your
special requirements, in strict privacy
without obligation or expense to you,
legal or otherwise.
