Simon Ackerman. president

Mr. Ackerman was a founder
of the Albert Einstein Medical
College at Yeshiva University
where he was a trustee. In
1929 he served as delegate to
the Zionist World Congress in
Zurich and had always been
active in Jewish organizations.
He served as division chairman
of the old United Palestine Ap-
peal and later in Brooklyn's
Federation of Jewish Philan-
thropies. Be was a director of
Machzika Talmud Torah. Tem-
ple Emanu-El (in New York)
and Hebrew Institute of Boro
Park.
In 1933. with Hitler's rise to
power. he served on a com-
mittee directing an economic
boycott of Germany.
Mr. Ackerman founded his
clothing business shortly after
coming to this country from
Lithuania in 1895.
He is survived by his wife,
three daughters, two sons. nine
grandchildren and six great
grandchildren.
