URGENT APPEAL FOR
WORLD FAMOUS
LOMZER YESHIVAH
IN ISRAEL

Rabbi Isaac Blechman, of
Chicago, a former student of
Yeshivah Lomza, is represent-
ing the Petach Tikvah Yeshivah
of Israel. He is currently visit-
ing Detroit.

The Yeshivah Petach Tikvah
in Israel is one of the foremost
Torah centers in the world.

Hundreds of Students—many
orphans and refugees—are pro-
vided with all their necessities
at this Yeshivah.

This great institution is now
more than ever, facing a very
severe crisis. Immediate help is
urgently needed.

The Yeshivah is under the
direction of the well-known
Rosh-Yeshivah I.M. Gordon and
Chief Rabbi Reuven Katz of
Petach Tikvah.

The Council of Orthodox
Rabbis and Vaad Ha-Yeshivoth
of Detroit are appealing to all
good hearted brothers and sis-
ters to help the representative,
Rabbi Isaac Blachman, in every
way possible, to make his holy
mission a success.

The aim of the Council of
Orthodox Rabbis is to organize
all Detroit Jews in support of
traditional Judaism and to unite
all sections of the Orthodox
community in order to coordi-
nate efforts in community work
and to strengthen the interests
of Orthodox Judaism in the
planning of Orthodox centers
of worship in new neighbor-
hoods.

Benevolent Society
Installs N. P. Rossen

At a recent dinner in the May-
fair Room. Nathan P. Rossen
was installed as president of the
Hebrew Benevolent ill)ociety. He
succeeds Nathan Wolok, who
was presented with a gift in
appreciation of his services to
the organization by officers and
members of the board.
Harry E. Citrin was chairman
of the evening. and Isidore Sos-
nick was the toastmaster. Rabbi
Isaac Stollman, national presi-
dent of Mizrachi-Hapoel Hamiz-
rachi and a member of the presi-
dium of the Council of Orthodox
Rabbis. was the guest speaker.
Others who participated in
the program of installation in-
cluded Sam Nelson, honorary
president, and David Richman,
a past president. Musical selec-
tions were presented by Cantors
Louis Klein, of Cong. Bnai
Moshe and Shabtai Ackerman,
of Beth Abraham Synagogue.
Rossen named the following
to serve as chairmen: Harry
Portner. cemetery committee;
Sam Nelson. office; Harry E.
Citrin, finance; Meyer Levin,
building; Hyman Mitnick, pur-
chasing; Nathan Samet, publi-
city: Samuel A. Kayne and Sen.
Charles S. Blondy, legal ad-
visory; and Ben Grant, public
relations.

Adas Shalom Couples
Mark Annual Sabbath

The annual Young Married
Couples Club Sabbath will be
observed at Adas Shalom Syna-
gogue at 8:30 p.m., today, when
the principal message will be
delivered by Noam Shudofsky,
youth education director, who
will speak on "What Is the Role
of the Parent in Jewish Educa-
tion?"
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal will of-
ficiate. and Cantor Nicholas
Fenakel will chant the liturgical
portions, assisted by the youth
choir under the direction of
Shimon Gewirtz.
Shudofsky's talk will be heard
during the oneg shabbat and
social hour following the serv-
ice in the social hall. The com-
munity is invited.

Inter-Men's Club
Dinner Features
Dr. A. J. Lelyveld

Dr. Arthur J. Lelyveld, rabbi
of Fairmount Temple, in Cleve-
land, 0., will be principal speak-
er at the 25th annual Intercon-
gregational Men's Club Dinner,
to be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday,
in the social hall of Cong. Shaa-
rey Zedek.
Rabbi Lelyveld, who for 10
years served as national direc-
tor of the Bnai Brith Hillel
Foundations and is presently a
member of its national commis-
sion, is the author of numerous
books. He is recognized as an
outstanding speaker.
The Men's Club of Shaarey
Zedek, headed by Abe Katzman,
president, will be host to the
silver anniversary event. Dr.
Max Lichter is the dinner chair-
man.
The dinner was inaugurated
by the Men's Club of Temple
Beth El, with the number of par-
ticipating organizations increas-
ing each year. Men's clubs from
17 Orthodox, Conservative and
Reform congregations will join
in this year's dinner.
The guest speaker will be in-
troduced by Rabbi Morris Ad-
ler. Rabbi Lelyveld will speak
on "The Return to Judaism—
Analysis and Challenge."

Judge Baum to Head
Ghetto Observance

Wayne County Circuit Court
Judge Victor Baum will be the
chairman of the 16th annual
community - wide meeting to
mark the Warsaw Ghetto Up-
rising. according to an an-
nouncement by William Cohen,
acting president of Detroit
Jewish Community Council and
Dr. Leonard Sidlow, chairman
of the Council's culture com-
mission.
The meeting will be held on
April 19. Organizations are
urged to reserve this date and
to avoid possible conflicts of
program.
Judge Baum will meet with
the planning committee at 12:30
p.m. Tuesday at the Council
office 163 Madison Ave.

Detroit Branch of Chabad
Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch has
launched its membership drive
with the goal of enrolling 500
new members in the organiza-
tion by Passover. New mem-
bers will be supplied with lit-
erature for home, and school
use and study groups will be
organized on all levels of He-
brew education.
The current Detroit Branch
consists of eight groups with
100 members of all ages. The
local branch is part of the
world-wide religious and edu-
cational network under the
direction of the Lubavitcher
Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M.
Schneerson. In North Africa
alone the organization has over
4,000 students enrolled in 67
Yeshivot.
Serving on the executive com-
mittee of the membership cam-
paign here are Isadore Starr,
chairman; Ernest Citron, Harry
M. Eskin, Herbert Eskin, Lazar
Hammes and Arthur Selman,
honorary chairmen; Sam Aaron,
Harry Blitz, M. Manuel Merzon
and Isadore Sosnick, co-chair-
men; Mesdames M. Schwartz
and S. Aaron, women's div-
ision; David J. Cohen, steering
committee; Daniel Schwartz, ar-
rangements; Jack Ginsbur g,
treasurer; Jonathan Baiter, sec-
retary; and Ernest Citron, mast-
er of ceremonies of member-
ship banquet.
Rabbi S. Beryl Shemtov is
head of the Detroit Chabad
office.

Hebrew Schools'
Annual Meeting
Set for June 16

Announcement was made this
week that June 16 has been set
as the date for the annual
meeting of the United Hebrew
Schools of Detroit.
Plans for the program in-
clude important discussions on
educational problems, and the
schools ask other communal
organizations not to arrange
conflicting events for that
night.

Shomrey Emunah to Raise
Funds for New Building

A subscription campaign has
been launched by Cong. Shorn-
rey Emunah for funds for its
new building on Schaefer and
Clarita, according to congrega-
tion president Joseph Kadans.
Meyer Freedman and David
Schoichit are co-chairmen of
the building committee.
The Orthodox congregation is
meeting at the Hayim Green-
berg Center until completion
of its building.
