at Council Dinner of "A Modern
for Anniversary
Christian View of Israel,"

The names of Gov. Williams,
Mayor Miriani, Circuit Judge
Victor J. Baum and Probate
Judge Nathan J. Kaufman were
added this week to that of Pro-
bate Judge Ira G. Kaufman as
honorary chairmen of the 21st
anniversary dinner of the Coun-
cil of Orthodox Rabbis and
Merkaz.
In making the announcement,
Rabbi Joshua S. Sperka, dinner
chairman, stated that the event
will be held on March 3, in the
Mayfair Room, 19161 Schafer.
Coming here from Elizabeth,
N.J., where he is rabbi of the

RABBI PINCHAS TEITZ

Orthodox community and dean
of the Jewish Educational Cen-
ter, is Rabbi Pinchas M. Teitz,
prominent scholar and lecturer.
Rabbi Teitz is the founder
and lecturer on the Talmudic
Seminar of the Air. broadcast
weekly over five radio stations.
He is member of the presid-
ium of the Union of Orthodox
Rabbis, founder of the National
Bas-Kol Association and dean
of the Mesivta of New Jersey.
A musical program, yet to be
announced, also is planned for
the evening's entertainment.
The Israel Bond office will
present citations that night to
congregations in the community
which have been encouraged by
the Council and Merkaz to sell
thousands of dollars in bonds
through various appeals.
Reservations to the dinner
may be made by calling the
Council office, TO 5-9100, dur-
ing the day, or at TE 4-6624,
evenings.

Beth Abraham Youth
to Conduct Services

Members of the Youth Con-
gregation of Beth Abraham
Synagogue will conduct sabbath
morning services at 8:45 a.m.,
Saturday. announces Benjamin
Siegal, president.
Acting as cantors will be Sol
Blumenfeld, Aaron Engel and
Aaron Blumenfeld, while read-
ing from the Torah are Mark
Schlussel and Nethaniel Fuchs.
Schlussel will also giVe a scrip-
tural synopsis, and the sermon
will be delivered by Sol Blu-
menfeld.
Other members of the Youth
Congregation also will partici-
pate in the service, which is
under the supervision of adult
leader, Irving Schlussel.
A
kiddush in honor of the Bar
Mitzvah of Gary Brown will
follow the service.

Rabbi Segal to Open
School Directors' Series

Rabbi Jacob E. Segal will
speak on "Jewish Attitudes To-
wards Prayer and Ritual" at 8:15
p.m., Thursday, at the Kasle
Midrasha Building. The lecture
is the first in a series of four
on aspects of Jewish education
being sponsored by the Direc-
tors' Council of Jewish Religious
Schools of Metropolitan Detroit.
Other speakers scheduled are
Dr. Isaac Barzilay on Feb. 26,
Rabbi M. Robert Syme on March
5, and Dr. Maurice Shudofsky on
March 12.

H. Read, minister of the North
Congregational Church, when
he delivers an addre s s at the
Synagogue Adult Institute at
8:30 p.m., Tuesday, announces
Rabbi Benjamin H. Gorrelick,
Institute chairman.
The new course, "Focus on
Israel," which Rev. Read will
address, is a series of 10 con-
secutive weekly presentations
by prominent Israeli and Amer-
ican presonalities, on aspects of
Israeli life.
Rev. Read is national director
of the organization "Children to
Palestine," which helps bring
Jewish youngsters to Israel. He
took an active part in helping to
rescue Jewish children from
Europe, especially during the
Hitler regime. He also has vis-
ited Israel to see many of the
children whom he and the or-
ganization with which he was
affiliated were instrumental in
rescuing.
The Synagogue Adult Insti-
tute is the cooperative adult ed-
ucation project co-sponsored by
the Conservative congregations
of Detroit, which include. Adas
Shalom, Ahavas Achim, Beth
Aaron, Bnai Moshe, Shaarey Ze-
dek and Evergreen Jewish Con-
gregation.

Adas Shalom Couples
Sponsor Late Service

Adas Shalom Young Married
Couples Club will sponsor a late
Friday evening service at 8:30
p.m., Feb. 20, at the synagogue.
Noam Shudofsky will speak on
"What is the Role of the Parent
in Jewish Education?"
The talk will be followed by
a question and answer period
and a social hour. For further
information call Mrs. Sam Kan-
er, UN 4-5345.
The club will also hold an old-
time square dance at 8:30 p.m.,
Feb. 28. Refreshments, a mid-
night snack and prizes will be
featured.
Chairmen of the arrangements
committee are Mr. and Mrs.
Marty Landy, who are assisted
by Messrs. and Mesdames Bernie
Blase, Fred Rifkin, Ben Luftman
Harve, Remer and George Dup-
nek.

New Life Begins

Rabbi Max A. Lipshitz, of
Madison, Wis., will speak from
the pulpit of Cong. Bnai Moshe
at 8:15 p.m. services today as
the first of a series of events
honoring Rabbi Moses Lehrman,
Bnai Moshe spiritual leader on
his 10th anniversary with the
synagogue.
Rabbi Lipshitz, the son-in-law
of Rabbi Lehrman, will speak on
"Faith, Father nd the Rabbi,"
it is announced by Harry J.
Gunsberg, president.
Cantor Louis Klein and the
male choir will chant the serv-

a social hour under Sisterhood
'auspices.
Culminating the anniversary
celebration will be a dinner in
recognition of Rabbi Lehrman's

and community at 6 p.m., Sun-
day, at Rainbow Terrace.
Julius Reznik, vice-president
of the congregation, will serve
as toastmaster at the banquet,
and officers of the congregation,
presidents of its affiliate groups
, and rabbinical colleagues will

Milton Eisler is chairman of
the committee planning the an-
niversary events. Serving with
him, in addition to synagogue
officers, are Mesdames Bernard
Klein, I. E. Goodman and Harry
Gunsberg, of the Sisterhood;
Karl Greenberg, Daniel Welber
and Eugene Friedman, of the
Men's Club; and Melvin Weisz
and Norbert Reinstein, of the
Married Couples Club.

Breakfast Club Meeting

The Sunday breakfast pro-
gram of Cong. Beth Moses will

Rabbi Harold Goldfarb is ser-
ving as spiritual leader of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek during the two
weeks that Rabbi Morris Adler
is on vacation.
A classmate of Rabbi Adler at
the Jewish Theological Semin-
ary, Rabbi Goldfarb previously
served the congregation during
the High Holy Day period.
