File Charges Against German Paper for Blood Libel Fraud

DUSSELDORF (JTA) — The
Central Council of Jews in
Germany, acting in behalf of
the Jewish community as a
whole, has filed libel charges
against a German scandal sheet
known as "8-Uhr Blatt," for

publication of a blood libel
fraud.
Last December, the sheet
published an account of a sup-
posed ritual murder which it
alleged had been committed by
Jews in 1929. One passage of
the account read: "According
to an old Jewish tradition,
Passover matzohs are only re-
ligiously effective if drenched
in Christian blood."
Helmut Klier, 25-year-old car-
penter, was arrested here on
suspicion he was the individual
who painted swastikas on the
portals of the Dusseldorf syna-
gogue last week, police an-
nounced. It was disclosed that
police action had been taken
against Klier several times on
charges of illegal Communist
activities.

Reveal Nazi Slaughter
of 56,700 Greek Jews

ATHENS (JTA)—More than
56,700 Jews were departed to
their deaths by the Nazis who

hostages of all faiths and de-
ported nearly another 100,000
persons, Vassilis Brakatsoulas,
leader of the Opposition, de-
clared in Parliament during a
debate on the government's
motion that all proceedings
against Nazi war criminals be
halted.
The government won out and
trials of German war criminals
will come to an end. The
measure will affect chiefly 850
Germans now living in Ger-
many. The favorable vote was
occasioned by foreign policy
considerations.
