of Cong. Bnai Moshe by Rabbi
Moses Lehrman will be honored
by members of the synagogue at
an anniversary dinner to be
held at 6 p.m., Feb. 15, at
Rainbow Terrace.

The dinner will climax a
series of events planned to
commemorate the occasion, an-
nounces Milton Eisler, general
chairman.

Among the other activities
planned will be a late Friday
evening service at 8:30 p.m.,

Rabbi Lehrman came to Bnai
Moshe in 1948, after serving for
five years as spiritual leader of
Temple Beth David in Buffalo,
N. Y. Since arriving here, he
has been active in civic, educa-
tional and religious affairs.
During his tenure at Bnai
Moshe, the religious school
building adjacent to the main
sanctuary on Dexter was com-
pleted in 1951. Plans are now
being made for the completion
of the new synagogue and cen-
ter in Oak Park this- summer.
In anticipation of the opening
of the new synagogue, Rabbi
and Mrs. Lehrman already have
taken up residence on Gardner
St., in Oak Park.

Temple Israel Men's Club. The
medals will be conferred by Dr.

All boys and .girls in the
Schaefer-7 Mile area, between
the ages of eight and 12, have
been invited by Cong. Shomrey
Emanuah to a sabbath program
of entertainment, refreshments
and story-telling at 4 p.m., each
Saturday.
Under the direction of Cyril
Servetter, y out h committee
chairman, and Larry Goulson,
the program is held at the
Hayim Greenberg Center, 19161
Schaefer, the temporary home
of the congregation while its
new building is being con-
structed 'on Schaefer and Clar-
ita.
Joseph Kadans is newly-
elected president of the con-
gregation. David Shoichet and
Meyer Freedman are co-chair-
men of the building commit-
tee.

In Detroit this week on a
two-week mission to acquaint
the community with the work
of the Ohr Joseph network of
yeshivot in France and North
Africa is Rabbi Gershon Lib-
man.
Accompanied by Rabbi Ozer
Schwartz, an alumnus of the
yeshivah in Paris, Rabbi Lib-
man brought with him news
of new developments of Jewish
life in Morocco and Tunisia.
Rabbi Libman, who is well
acquainted with problems of
North African Jewry, said that
the Jewish community is faced
more and more with poverty
because weakening ties be-
tween France and North
Africa have caused business-
men and merchants to face
"virtual total exclusion from
general trade."
The rabbi added that, in
addition, these governments
have refused to allow immigra-
tion to Israel, "closing the
door on the one ray of hope
remaining to these destitute
Jews."
Rabbi Libman believes that
only two alternatives are open
to Jewish leaders in these com-
munities: education of these
youngsters either in France or
in their own countries.
Under the first plan, he said,'
thousands of boys and girls
already have come to France
in recent years to be prepared
for aliyah to Israel in the
Yeshivah Ohr Joseph in Paris.
The second option, he indi-
cated, is to educate Moroccan
and Tunisian youngsters at
branches of the school in both
countries and hope for their
eventual opportunity to enter •
Israel.
The rabbi's mission to this
country is to make known the
plight of North African Jewry
and to obtain funds to fur-
ther his work with them. Cur-
rently 300 children attend
Yeshivot Ohr Joseph, 200 in
France and 100 in North
Africa.
