Israel Stamp Issue
to Honor Writer

Israel Philatelic Agency
announces that the State of
Israel will issue a 250 pruta
postage stamp to commemo-
rate the 100th anniversary
of the birth of Sholom Alei-
chem. Release has been set
for this spring.

Exhibition of Israeli Artists to Open
Tuesday, at Grinnell Galleries

An outstanding array of art
from Israel will be exhibited
beginning Tuesday at the Grin-
nell Galleries, 1515 Woodward.
The showing will continue
through Feb. 7, it was an-
nounced by Les Arwin, direct-
or of the galleries.
The exhibit consists of 90
art pieces, including oils, water-
colors, gouaches and woodcuts
by internationally -Prominent
artists who now make their
home in Israel.
Among the better knolivn
participants in the exhibit are
Nahum Gutman, famous for
his water-colors; Miron Sima,
whose graphics are displayed
in leading museums through-
out the world; Zvi Mayrowitz,
who has paintings in museums
and private collections in many
countries; and Jacob Stein-
hardt, whose famous woodcuts
depict Biblical scenes.
Herbert Goldman, director of
an art gallery in Tel Aviv,

will be here during the two-
week showing to explain de-
tails of the collection, which
represents every facet from
modern to primitive, seascapes
and Biblical, pastoral and stills.
The exhibition was made
possible through the sponsor-
ship of several prominent De-
troiters, among them Mrs.
Abraham Cooper, Mr. and Mrs.
Lewis B. Daniels, Mrs. Joseph
H. Ehrlich, Mrs. Clarence Eng-
gass, Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Feinberg, Mr. and Mrs. Max
Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard
Kasle, Mr .and Mrs. Felix
Mahler, Mr. and Mrs. J. J.
Wainger and Mrs. Henry Wine-
