SYNAGOGUE

Levine Speaks
Here Sunday

At a breakfast meeting of workers of the Shaarey
Zedek Development Fund held Jan. 4; at the synagogue, it
was announced by Louis Berry, chairman of the drive, that
the campaign has reached the $2,000,000 mark.
Over 30 per cent of the members have not as yet been
contacted or. their contributions confirmed, the statement
by Berry added. He said that this means the $3,000,000
goal is in sight. The campaign has been extended for three
weeks so that all merribers - can be contacted. •
This Sunday, there will-be another meeting' of workers.i..:
During the week there will -be an all-out effort to hit the
$2,500,000 mark.

Hertz will preach on "Why. Pray?" At 11:15 a.m. services
Saturday, Rabbi David A. Baylinson will speak on "Tales of

Sabbath of Song Opens Jewish Music Festival

The 15th annual nationwide
celebration of Jewish Music
Festival, organized by the Jew-
ish Music Council of the Na-
tional Jewish Welfare Board,
will open on the Sabbath of.
Song (Shabbat Shirah), Jan. 24,
it was announced by Rabbi
Emanuel Green, Council chair-

the Festival by sponsoring

agogue programs and radio and
television events.
Theme of the observance is
"Commission a Jewish Musical
Work." Some 50 new Jewish
compositions have to date been
commissioned as part of a com-
missioning project launched two
years ago by the Jewish Music
Council. Many of these works
will have their premiere on this
festival.
