0 Rae Weinstein, One of Hadassah's First Detroit Presidents, Passes Mrs. Henry (Rae Saulson) Weinstein, one of the first presi- dents of Detroit Chapter of Ha- dassah, who made her home for the past few years in Austin, Tex., but who lived most of her life in Detroit, died Dec. 31 in New York, where she was visit- ing with her son, Sheldon Henry. She was 76. Her husband, who was promi- nent in communal circles here,. died 28 years ago. Filneral services were held here at Kaufman Chapel on Sunday. surviving her besides her son are her daughter, Mrs. Alan Wolfson, of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren and her brothers, Saul Saulson of De- troit and Elconan H. Saulson of Austin, Tex. A pioneer in women's Zionist activities here, Mrs. Weinstein was a longtime member of Con- gregation Shaarey Zedek and the United Hebrew Schools. Born in Russia, Mrs. Wein- stein was brought to Michigan as a child. She studied in De- troit and made her home here with her uncle, the late William Saulson who was pne of Michi- gan's venerable leaders and one of the early presidents of Con- gregation Shaarey Zedek. . The son of immigrant parents who came to the United States to escape persecution in Euroke, Berkson was born and educated in Chicago. From his school days, he was interested in newspaper work and ad- vanced through the ranks from reporter to vice-president and general manager of the . Inter- national News Service before being named publisher of the New York newspaper.
