JERUSALEM — A third at-
tempt to create a joint list of
Israel's three labor parties for
-the next elections to the Knes-
set was seen in an invitation
from Prime Minister David Ben-
Gurion to representatives of
Mapai, Achdut Avodah and
Mapam to meet him in his of-
fice next Tuesday.
While the Prime Minister's
invitation indicated specifical-
ly that the purpose of the meet-
ing would be to "declare a three-
months truce in inter-party
strife and defamation," Ben-
Gurion added that, if the pro-
posed truce could be maintained
for the three months, he would
suggest it be extended for an
additional year.
Political sources here suggest-
ed that the meeting might pave
the way for renewed efforts
to prepare a joint labor elec-
tion list against any possibil-
ity of a General Zionist—Herut
merger which has been dis-
cussed sporadically in the past.
It was learned from reliable
sources that despite failures at
merger efforts of the General
Zionists and the right-wing
Herut, and despite the ex-
changes of charges between the
two parties, they had privately
approached a Hebrew Univer-
sity faculty member to mediate
their differences. The General
Zionists' support of Ben-Gur-
ion's proposal Sunday for direct
elections of Mayors, however,
widened still further the gap
With Herut.
Within Mapai a new dispute
was raging over the speech last
week of General Moshe Dayan,
former army chief of staff in
which he publicly challenged
the "older generation" leader-
ship of the Israel government
and the Jewish Agency, as well
as the leadership of Histadrut,

Labor which plays a powerful
role in the country's politics.
Broadening his attacks to in-
clude also his own Mapai Party,
principal component of the coal-
ition Government, Gen. Dayan
told a public meeting here that
the veteran leadership of both
the Mapai and Histadrut should
give way to younger men.
"The young generation," said
the 43-year-old Israeli war hero,
"who fought the War of Libera-
tion and the Sinai Campaign, has
a better understanding of Israel
than those who have been sit-
ting for 20 years in Histadrut
headquarters."
Gen. Dayan declared that
there are too many employees
on the public payrolls now. He
claimed that 5,000 workers
could be pared from the pay-
rolls of the government, the
municipalities and the Jewish
Agency, at an annual saving
of at least 20,000,000 pounds,
exactly the amount being raised
here currently through semi-
compulsory public subscription,
as a special loan for immigra-
tion absorption.
Aharon Becker, trade union
leader, speaking on Monday,
said that Gen. Dayan had no
knowledge of questions of effi-
ciency and dismissals. Davar,
the organ of Histadrut, said
that the General's charges
could only help to deepen the
gap betWeen the younger gen-
eration and the older, and be-
tween the public and its elect-
ed representatives.
Gen. Dayan also voiced op-
position to another policy of
some of his own party leaders
in Mapai, when he declared him-
self against the joint election
ticket of all the labor parties
—Mapai, Achdut Avodah and
Mapam.

BERLIN (JTA) — A move-
ment whereby German youth
will have an opportunity of
expiating some of the wrongs
committed by the Nazi regime,
has been launched here by the
Evangelic Academy.
Under the plan, youths will
be sent to a number of coun-
tries—first of all to the Soviet
Union, Poland and Israel — to
participate in the "signs of ex-
piation" actions. The youths
will participate in reconstruc-
tion work in the countries, to
help repay in part for the havoc
wrought by German National
Socialism.

ATLANTA, Ga. (JTA)—The
Fulton County, Georgia, Grand
Jury re-indicted George Bright
and three other defendants on
charges of having blasted the
Reform Temple here last Oct.
12.
The jury added a new count
that could bring a lesser sen-
tence than the original indict-
ment under which five defend-
ants faced a possible death
sentence under Georgia law.
Bright's trial, the first of the
series, ended in a mistrial Dec.
10. Not indicted this time was
Robert Bowling, one of the
original five defendants. All
have been associated with an
anti-Semitic organization.
