Mrs. Fanny Cherkas, mother
of Mrs. Moses Lehrman who is
the wife of Rabbi` - Moses Lehr-
man, of Cong. Bnai Moshe, died
Dec. 19. She had resided at
25220 Gardner, Oak Park.
Born in Russia, Mrs. Cherkas
was active in numerous com-
munal organizations, including
the Reznivker Benevolent Asso-
ciation and its Ladies Auxiliary,
the Bnai Moshe Sisterhood and
Ha dassah.
Besides Mrs. Lehrman, she is
survived by a son, Dr. Benjamin;
three brothers, two sisters, four
grandchildren and two great
grandchildren. Services were at
Ira Kaufman Chapel, with in-

In their statement the organi-
zations assert:
"Religious liberty is an indis-
pensable aspect of democratic
freedom; indeed it is the very
foundation of American democ-
racy. As a nation of people at-
