JERUSALEM — An inter-
national farmers' convention
sponsored, among other bodies,
by the Jewish National Fund,
and including within its frame-
work an exhibition and a semi-
nar on land settlement prob-
lems, will officially bring to a
close Israel's tenth anniversary
celebrations this spring.
During the convention period,
delegates from more than 25

Adullam. They will also visit
the Hulah project, the Lakhish
development area, land reclama-

and other points of agricultural
interest.
Participants in the program,
from April 5 to 12, have been
invited by Israel farmers in
villages, kibbutzim and mosha-
vim to be their personal guests,
free of charge, for a "Farmer
to Farmer" week prior to the
convention's official opening, to
observe day-to-day life on an
Israel far mat first hand.

B'Omer this year will fall on
May 26, between Mother's Day
and Father's Day.
In announcing the resolution,
which calls upon schools, con-
gregations and other education-
al agencies to give public recog-
nition to the Jewish teacher and
educator, Philip W. Lown, pres-
ident of the American Associa-
tion, stated that program mate-
rials are in preparation for
rabbis, educational administra-
tors, and lay heads of national
and local educational institu-
tions.
The resolution was introduc-
ed by Jacob Alkow, on behalf
of the association's committee
on teacher education and wel-
fare which was organized in
May 1957 in response to the
critical shortage of teachers for
Jewish schools. The committee
has since undertaken a number
of important projects to elevate
the economic and social status
of the Jewish educator, to at-
tract young people to the field
and improve the training of the
Hebrew teacher. It is currently
engaged in working out a na-
tional pension plan for Jewish
teachers and a national code of
personnel practice.
Consultant to the committee
is Rabbi Hyman Chanover. The
executive director of the Ameri-
can Association is Dr. Judah
Pilch.

Columbus. Weekly
Spreads to Dayton

COLUMBUS (JTA)—The
Jewish Chronicle announced a
widespread acceptance of its
new Dayton edition.
Announcing that the edition
would be published weekly, the
37-year-old Columbus English-
Jewish weekly reported that
"leaders of the Dayton com-
munity were quick to acclaim
the Chronicle as a sizeable
step forward in a community
which has never been served
by a Jewish newspaper."
Richard E. Neustadt and Mil-
ton J. Pinsky, publishers, said
that establishment of the Day-
ton edition meant that the
Chronicle, the only Jewish
weekly in central Ohio, "has
now expanded its leadership to
include Southwestern Ohio."
