the University of Pittsburgh de-
bate tournament. *

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Pearlman, of 20125 Woodbine,
is in the cast of the Wayne
State University Theater's pro-
duction of "Peter Pan," which
opened last weekend at the
Theater, 3424 Woodward, and
continues this evening and
Saturday. Miss Pearlman, a
junior majoring in speech, has
been in several Wayne produc-
tions.

Detroit Jewish Folk Chorus,
under the direction of Harvey
Schreibman, h a s announced
plans for the following events:
A new Year's eve dinner-
dance will be held at the group's
new building, 14868 Schaefer.
Favors and entertainment will

The chorus's 18th annual do-
nor luncheon will be held at
noon, Jan. 13, at Mayfair Cater-
ers. Chairmen are Mesdames
Morris Citrin and . Yetta Jaffe.
They will be assisted by Mes-
dames Walter Litt, Rose Le-
Irene, Aaron Bleifield, Leon
Gray, Manuel Weisman, David
Milg,ram, Rubin Schwartz, Ar-
thur Bebes, Joseph Schiffer and

The annual mid-winter con-
cert of the Jewish Folk Chorus
will be presented on Jan. 25, at
the Detroit Institute of Arts
auditorium. The program will
commemorate the 22nd anniver-
sary of the . death of Jacob
Scheafer, with the presentation
of his first oratorio, "Martirer
Blut," f e a t u r i n g Shoshana
Freedman as guest soloist. Mem-
bers of the chorus will appear
in other solo roles. The Youth
Chorus will join with the Folk
Chorus for the presenation of
a program of contemporary
Yiddish, English and Israeli mu-

The Detroit premiere of "The
Horse's Mouth," the new Alec
Guinness film, took place Thurs-
day at the Trans-Lux Krim
Theater.
Guinness portrays an English
artist who fights for his slight-
ly tattered soul. The movie is
based on a novel by Joyce
Cary, with the screen play by
Guinness, who has been ac-
claimed for the best male per-
formance at the Venice Film
Festival.
Co-starring with the British
actor are Kay Walsh and
Renee Houston.

A new course designed to
train leaders in the teaching of
dramatics will be offered by the
drama department of the Jewish
Community Center.
"The Conduct of Creative Dra-
matics" is the title of the course.
Jerome Bayer, director of the
Center's drama department, will
be in charge of the course,
which will consist of seven
weekly sessions on successive
Monday evenings from 8:15 to
10:30.
The classes will start Jan. 26
at the Davison Center.
