Israel Movie Narrated by
Chet Huntley at JNF Fete

An open meeting, the first of
several rallies, scheduled by the
Ladies' Auxiliary of the Jewish
National Fund, will inaugurate
the year's activities in behalf of
the fund-raising campaign of
the organization, Mrs. Al Schnei-
der, chairman of this year's
donor, announced this week.
Mrs. Schneider announced
that at the open meeting at
12:30 p.m. next Tuesday, at the

oming, the feature will be the
showing of the Israel movie,
narrated by Chet Huntley.
Mrs. Samuel Krohn, program
chairman for the afternoon, an-
nounced that other similarly-
enlightening programs are plan-
ned by the auxiliary.
Mrs. Schneider will report on
the progress of the fund-raising
activities, which will culminate
with the donor event at Temple
Israel on Jan. 27. Her co-chair-
men are Mrs. Irving Bloom and
Mrs. Milton Winston.
A dessert luncheon will be

served at Tuesday's meeting,
and the hostesses will be Mes-
dames George Bayer, Max Hay-
man, Albert Prag and Naomi
Strub.
An invitation to attend this
meeting has been extended by
the president of the auxiliary,
Mrs. Max Stollman, to all mem-
bers and friends.

to Head Business Men
of Local City of Hope

Recently-elected officers of
the City of Hope's Detroit Bus-
iness Men's Group were installed
at the organization's annual Ha-
nukah party and victory dinner
last Wednesday evening, at Hol-
iday Manor.
Ben Goldberg, who directed
this year's successful compaign

Col. David Safir was appoint-
ed as honorary chairman of
the board, of which Morris Can-
vasser again serves as chairman.
Other board members include
Charles Canvasser, Norman Cot-
tler and Bernard Kozloff. Bert
Bassin will continue as admin-
istrative secretary to Ben Gold-
berg.
At the dinner, several awards
were presented. Board member
William Benderoff donated
gold-plated torches with dia-
mond centers that went to Har-
old Kozloff, most funds collect-
ed; Harry Brodsky, highest num-
ber of pledge contributions; and
Max Spoon, greatest increase
over previous year.
The officers were installed
and greeted by Robert Dach-
man, regional director of the
City of Hope. Entertainment
was provided by Dan Frohman
and the Music Study Club chor-
us and Mickey Woolf and his or-
chestra.

Simons Center Branch

The Friendship Lounge for
older adults at the D. W. Si-
mons branch of the Jewish Cen-
ter, 4000 Tuxedo, has set two
events for the remainder of De-
cember.
"Tea with Sholem Aleichem,"
a joint celebration of the Friend-
ship Lounge, Dexter Mothers
Club, Center-Davison Mothers
Club, Fenkell and 12th Street
Mothers Club, will mark the
100th anniversary of the birth
of the great Yiddish author, • at
2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30. The
program will include a display
of Sholem Aleichem's works and
recordings of his writings.
The musical program will pre-
sent David Horowitz, vocalist;
Paul Wineman, pianist; Zelig
Levine, violinist, and Mrs. Lucia
Weininger who will recite from
the works of Sholem Aleichem.
Eva Cohen Day on Wednes-
day, Dec. 31, 1 p.m., will honor
outstanding members of the
Friendship Lounge.

A dramatics club for teens
and tweens (ages 12 to 15) will
meet Wednesday afternoons at
the Davison Jewish Center.
The club will meet from 4 to
5:30 p.m. to work on plays, act-
ing, dramatic technique and
other theater skills, such as
scenery, costuming, make-up,
stage presence, rhythm and dic-
tion.
