nounced this week that definite
progress is being made in the
campaign to raise $3,000,000 for
the new synagogue structure.
It was announced that the

Teachers' Institute

The annual teacher's institute
of the Directors' Council of
Metropolitan Detroit Religious
Schools" will be presented be-
ginning at 1:15 p.m., Jan. 18, at
Temple Israel. The theme of
this year's program will be
"An Approach to Judaism; Re-
form, Conservative and Ortho-
dox Points of View." Speakers
will be Rabbis Hayim Donin,

Shaarey Zedek Junior Con-
gregation will lead services in
the main sanctuary at Sabbath
services this Saturday; begin-
ning at 8:45 a.m.
Serving as cantors for the
service will be Michael Stul-
berg, Richard Apt e k a r and
Louis Weingarden. Baalei Kriah
will be Lionel Allan, Tony
Greenberg, Leonard Somberg,
Malcolm Katz, Harold Toppel,
Leon Hochman, Ezra Cutler and
Michael Shur, with Sheila Fish-
man and Bonny Cohen giving
resumes of the sedrah and haf-
torah. Donna Abrams will give
the prayer for the government.

day will be conducted entirely
by teen-age members of syna-
gogue youth groups.
Today's services, beginning at
8:30 p.m., will feature the par-
ticipation of Marvin _ Alpiner,
president of the United Syna-
gogue Youth, as junior rabbi,
and Jonathan Goldsmith as can-
tor. Greetings will be given by
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal and Noam
Shudofsky, congregational youth
director.
On Saturday morning, sha-
charis will be chanted by Jona-
than Segal and Jerold Lax, while
Paul Stern chants the musaf
service. Leon Waldman will de-
liver the sermon.
At both services, youth will
lead in the responsive readings
and Hebrew prayers. A special
youth choir will sing tonight,
while members of the Leaders
Training Fellowship read from
the Torah at Saturday services.
A youth kiddush will follow
services today. After Saturday
services, an oneg shabbat lunch-
eon will be served. The commu-
nity is invited.
