Rachel Korn Set
by SA Institute

Rachel Korn, one of this coun-
try's leading Yiddish poets and
writers, will be the guest of De-
troit's Sholem Aleichem Insti-
tute, 19350 Greenfield, next
week.
The talented writer. who is
also a masterful story-teller, will

speak at the donor luncheon of
the Women's Division at 12:30
p.m., Wednesday, and also at
an oneg shabbat of Chapter I
at 9 p.m., Dec. 19.
Donor plans have been-carried
out by Mrs. Julia Weiss, ways
and means chairman of the
Women's Division, advises Mrs.
Louise Blank, chairman.
Toastmistress at the lunch-
eon will be Mrs. Sarah Fried-
man, who is also the donor
program chairman. Others
working on the affair are Mes-
dames Esther Reder and Bessie
Litwak, secretaries; and Sarah
Kanter, treasurer.
The event, will be the 33rd
annual program and will raise
funds to help maintain the cul-
tural and educational program
of the Institute.
In addition to Miss Korn,
there will be a selection of
songs by Sidney Resnick, who
will be accompanied at the piano
by Bella Goldberg.
Although her reputation had
been built mostly as a poetess,
Miss Korn was a winner of the
Louis LaMed Foundation Prize
for a collection of short stories.
Her first volume of poetry,
"The Village," was written in
1928. About 10 years later, her
first volume of short stories
and novelettes, "Earth," was
published.

Knollwood Clubbers
Elect Samuel Kane

Samuel Kane was elected
president of Knollwood Coun-
try Club. He succeeds Joseph
Gendelman, who has served two
one-year terms.
Other officers elected include
Bernard Siegel, vice-president;
David M. Miro, treasurer; Sol
Eisenberg, secretary; Gerson B.
Bernstein, assistant treasurer;
and George Kayes, assistant sec-
retary.
Harold H. Gilbert, Eisenberg
and Siegel were re-elected to
the board of directors, and were
joined by new board members
Dr. Harry Arnkoff and Joe
Schwartz.
