monial, there will be a dramatic

Series This Sunday
The Bnai Brith Hillel Founda-
tion at the University of Michi-
gan introduces a new program
for faculty and graduate stu-
dents with a monthly series,
"Sundays at 8," starting this
Sunday, when Prof. Herbert H.
Paper, of the university faculty,
presents an address at the Foun-
dation on "The Origins of the
Yiddish Language."
An associate professor of the
Near Eastern studies depart-
ment Dr. Paper is known for his
studies of the Yiddish language
and literature and his relations
with the Yiddish Scientific In-
stitute.
Author, lecturer and officer
of many scholarly societies, Dr.
Paper is a member of the ad-
visory committee of the Hillel
Foundation, to which he has
given several years of service
as teacher of its advanced Yid-
dish class.
Succeeding. programs in this
faculty series will include lec-
tures by Prof. Paul J. Alexan-
der on "The Jews in the Byzan-
tine Era;" Prof. Ronald Freed-
man on "Impressions of Hol-
land's Jewish Community" based
on his year's stay in that coun-
try as a Fulbright Fellow; and
Dr. Abraham Minkowich, Israeli
educator and Bible scholar, on
"Trends in Individualism in the
Bible."
The series has been set up
fo rthe special benefit of Jewish
faculty members and their grad-
uate students. The committee in
charge includes Prof. Alfred S.
Sussman, of the botany depart-
ment; Dr. Ronald Tikofsky, of
the speech pathology depart-
ment; and Dr. Herman Jacobs,
director of Hillel Foundation.
