Out-of-town guests here recently for the Bar Mitzvah of
Marvin Levine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Levine, of 18063
Griggs, were Mr. and Mrs. N. Levine and Dr. and Mrs. Norman
Gordon, of New York City. The Bar Mitzvah was held at Cong.
Beth Joseph, and a dinner in IVIarvin's honor was held at the
Rainbow Terrace.
Mr. Jules Doneson, of the Jules Doneson Travel Agency, is
presently in Jamaica as a guest of the Jamaica Tourist Board.
He was one of a group of 15 Michigan travel agents who flew
to Havana last week as guests of the Cuban Tourist Institute
and later left for Montego Bay.
Mrs. Sara Kaminker, Mrs. Ethel Adler and Mrs. Dora Fried-
man and Miss Louise Friedman were passengers aboard the
SS Israel which left on Thursday for Haifa.
Judge Nathan J. Kaufman will be honored on his 50th birth-
day with a kiddush being' tendered by Mr. and Mrs. Hyman
Tauber, his wife's parents, following services at Beth Abraham
Synagogue this Saturday. All friends are invited to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ozrovitz and son, Phil, formerly of
Richton Ave., are now residing in their new home at 21021 Ken-
osha, Oak Park.
The Misses Alice and Molly Moskowitz, formerly of Sturte-
vant Ave., are now residing in their new home, at 20575 Ruther-

Former Detroit Girl
Wins Guild Award
for Best '58 Story

The New York Newspaper
Guild's annual award has been
given this year to former De-
troiter Gael Greene, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Nat Greene, of
Wildermere Ave.
Miss Greene, a feature writer
for the New York Post, won the
award for her treatment of a
story dealing
with a South-
ern Negro
whose death
sentence was
commuted to
life imprison-
ment in an in-
cident that re-
ceived wide
national news
coverage. Miss Greene
The award—for the best story
written by a woman in 1958—
was presented to Miss Greene
at a program held last week in
New York's Waldorf Astoria
Hotel. Last year's annual award
was shared by Dorothy Kilgallen
and -Inez Robb, nationally-syndi-
cated columnists.
Miss Greene is a 1955 honor
graduate from the University
of Michigan, where she maj-
ored in art and journalism. In
1952, she took time off from
her classes at U. of M. to study
art in Paris. While there, *she
did free lance writing for local
newspapers.
Previously, she g r a duat e d
from Central High School,
where she was senior class
valedictorian.

Attorney General Paul L.
Adams has name d Jerry S.
Cohen, an assistant attorney gen-
eral, to head the criminal divi-
sion of the attorney general's
department, filling the vacancy
created by a resignation earlier
this year.
Adams said "Cohen's perform-
ance as assistant attorney gen-
eral on general assignment, dur-
ing which time he specialized in
criminal matters, has been out-
standing. His appointment will
most certainly add new strength
to the division and the depart-
ment."
Cohen, 33, joined the staff as
assistant in -May of this year.
A graduate of Wayne State Uni-
versity law school, he was a
partner in the Detroit firm of
Cohen and Cohen prior to his
appointment. He is a member
of the Detroit, Michigan and
the American Bar Associations,
and serves on the civil liberty
committee of the s t a t e bar
group.
The new appointee is past
president of the Business and
Professional Chapter of the
American Jewish Congress, a
member of the Jewish War Vet-
erans and has served on the
changing neighborhood commit-
tee of the Jewish Community
Council.
A veteran of World War II,
Cohen was in the U.S. Marine
Corps from 1943 to 1946 and is
now a member of the Marine
Corps League. He is married
and the father of a son, Daniel.

Plan Varied Events
for Rest of the Year

Couples Club has lined up a
series of events running through
the end of the year. On Nov. 29
and 30, a sneak preview theater
party will be held at the Film
Exchange Bldg. Chairmen of
the event are Gloria and Sandy
Pavlon, assisted by Myra and
Ray Greene, Ed and Irene
Schwartz and Ruth and Ed
Hope.
The annual Hanukah dinner-
dance will be held on Dec. 7, in
co-sponsorship with the Sister-
hood and Men's Club.
Prizes will be featured on the
Dec. 10 treasure hunt program,
in the synagogue social hall.

Lupo, Harry Golden Jr.,
Will Discuss 'Only in
America' Next Sunday

Robert M. Lupo, director of
publicity for the Jewish Com-
munity Center, will review Har-
ry Golden's "Only in America"
at the annual Book Fair meet of
the Center's Young Adult group,
at 9 p.m., Sunday, at the Davi-
son Center.
Harry Golden, Jr., son of the
author, and a member of the
Free Press editorial staff, will
participate in the discussion
period. Refreshments will be
served.

Detroiter Opens Club in Miami Beach Hotel

Former Detroiter Roy Rotter,
a resident of Miami Beach, Fla.,
since 1956, is now associated
with Al Mercur in the operation
of the Gay '90's Club, formerly
the Sapphire Room, in Miami
Beach's Belmar Hotel, on Col-
lins at 26th St.
Well - known to Detroiters,
Rotter and his wife were active
in a number of communal ac-
tivities during their many years
here. A member of Temple Is-
rael, Rotter also belonged to
Knollwood Country Club and
was a Shriner. He was an ad-
vertising executive here.
The Gay '90's Club, which had
its grand opening last week, is
unique in the Beach, the theme

being carried out completely in
Gay Nineties decor. The club's
slogan is "Everybody sings at
the Gay '90's Club."
