Concluding six-months of
fund-raising .efforts, the Greater
Detroit Bnai B r i t h Women's
Council will present its "Star-
Studded Show" at 8:30 p.m.,
Tuesday, in the Fox Theater.
Highlighting t h e evening's
entertainment will be Sam Lev-
enson, the former high school
teacher who
is now one of
t h e nation's
biggest names
in comedy.
Appearing
with Levenson
will be the
Barry Sisters,
a singing duo
who have re-
cently return-

gagements in London, England.
The sisters are well known
throughout this country. The
Fenby-Carr Orchestra also will
be featured.
Mrs. David Grosberg, Council
president, this week announced
that the goal of $100,000 is with-
in sight and is expected to be
reached by Tuesday's event.
The funds help to maintain
Bnai Brith's multitude of phil-
anthropic projects, conducted
in this country and in'Israel for
the advancement of the indi-
vidual and the cultural better-
ment of the world Jewish
community.

Feature 2 Soloists in
Center Concert Monday

The Center Symphony Orches-
tra, Julius Chajes conductor,
will feature Artur Balsam, pia-
nist, and Harvey Seigel, violin-
ist, at the concert Monday eve-
ning at the Davison Jewish
Center.
Balsam, who has become fa-
mous for his recitals with Na-
than Milstein and Zino Francis-
catti, was born
in Warsaw, Po-
land. He stud-
ied at State
Academy of
Musie in Ber-
lin and was
awarded t h e
Mendelsohn
prize in 1931.
He has been
oloist on
Balsam many occasions
with the NBC Orchestra, Chau-
tauqua Symphony and Euro-
pean orchestras. This will mark
his second appearance with the
Center Symphony. He will play
Mozart's Piano Concerto in C
Minor, K.491.
Seigel, who will perform
Chausson's Poem Op. 25, was
born in Toronto, and studied at
the Juillard School of Music
under Mischa Mischakoff and
before joining the Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra was a member
of the National Symphony in
Washington. He has been con-
certmaster of the Center Sym-
phony Orchestra for the past six
years.

MSU `Sammies' Raise
$100 for TB Hospital

The annual "Sammy Scrub,"
conducted by members of the
Michigan State University chap-
ter of Sigma Alpha Mu frater-
nity recently raised over $100
for the Ingham County Tuber-
culosis Hospital.
At the rate of 66 cents a car,
with many customers giving
more than that amount, mem-
bers scrubbed over 100 cars,
according to Danny Clark, fra-
ternity president.
Other officers of the frater-
nity, which traditionally pre-
sents a party for youngsters at
the TB hospital in December,
are Chuck Shapiro, treasurer;
and Mel Clayton, secretary.

Print Musical Scores
of Detroit Teacher

A 26-year-old instrumental
music teacher in the Allen
Park Junior High School has
had three musical scores pub-
lished by a Chicago music firm.
He is Jack Kopnick, son of
Mrs. Ann Kopnick, of Curtis
Ave., and the late Mr. Morris
Kopnick.
The works, primarily for use
in the public schools, at the
intermediate and upper ele-
mentary level, are the fairy
tales, "Three Goats Named
Gruff," "Aladdin" and "Cinder-
ella." Kopnick has set them to
music and added an additional
part for narrator or chorus.
Kopnick is a graduate of
Cass Technical High School
and Wayne State University,
where he was a scholarship
student for four years.
