New Activities Getting Under Way
for Youth at Davison Jewish Center

Among activities now getting
underway at the Jewish Corn-
munity Center two new facili-
ties for teen-tween members
were begun this week at the
Davison Branch.
Blue Grotto, a teen-tween
canteen will be open every
Thursday, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.,
under the supervision of Ieda
Bernstein, and Richard Rusnak.
There will be dancing to re-
corded music.
Another canteen program at
7:30 p.m., Tuesdays, w ill
include roller - skating a n d
dancing. Other special activi-
ties for these Tuesday night
gatherings will begin in the
near future.
Jewish Community Center
Cub Pack No. 369 is open to
boys 8 to 11 years of age who
are Center members. Previous
affiliation is unnecessary.
More than 300 youngsters in
the teen, tween and junior age
brackets are expected to com-
pete in the Center's expanded
basketball league program this
year.
League competition was
scheduled to begin for the ju-
niors last Saturday night and
will run through the winter on
Saturday nights. Nine- and 10-
year-olds will meet from 7 to 8
p.m., and 11- and 12-year-olds,
from 8 to 9 p.m. All games are
in the Davison branch gym,
4059 W. Davison.
Teen and tween clubs will
launch their season on Nov. 9.
Their games will be played in
the Davison gym on Sunday
afternoon and Monday and
Wednesday evenings.
The basketball program has
been planned by the athletic
council. League supervisor for
the teen-tween clubs will be
Norman Schimelman.
Teams will be grouped ac-
cording to age and ability, in
two divisions. The average age
of club members making up
the "A" league will be from
15 to 17. In the "B" league
this will be 13 to 15.

The junior basketball pro-
gram is sponsored by the Cen-
ter and the Hannah Schloss
Old Timers and the program is
free. Registration for this
ended Nov. 1. It will be limited
to Center members on a first
come first served basis. •
All juniors must first make
an appointment with the junior
department for an intake inter-
view.
Many volunteer fathers are
needed for coaching, score-
keeping and time keeping.
They, too, can register at the
Davison branch.
Instruction in boxing,
weightlifting, tumbling . a n d
fencing is also available at the
Davison Branch. .
Nate Coleman will instruct
boxing, weightlifting and tumb-
ling on Tuesday night for boys
14 and over. Ted Kaczander
will teach fencing for both
boys and girls on Monday and
Wednesday afternoons at 4
p.m.
There are no fees for these
classes.

Aid Group Sets Meeting

Q-T Detroit, Inc., a mutual
aid group for colostomy and
ileostomy patients and former
patients, will meet at 2 p.m.,
Sunday, at Mt. Carmel Hos-
pital. David A. Gutman will
demonstrate the therapeutic
value of hypnotism at the meet-
ing.
The group was organized for
the purpose of helping mem-
bers over the difficulties pre-
ceding and following colostomic
or ileostomic surgery. Any per-
son facing this surgery or who
have already undergone it and
are interested in joining this
group may call Tillie Bieman,
chairman, VE 8-8605. Members
will also visit any hospitalized
patient in these fields on re-
quest.

Temple Players
Stage Arty Show

Norman Perlstein, director of
information for the Jewish
Community Council, will be
guest speaker at a meeting of
Branch 11, Labor Zionist Or-
ganization of America at 9 p.m.,
Saturday, in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Stanley Jacobson,

His talk on "The Position of
the Jews in the South" will be
followed by a question and an-
swer period. A social hour will
follow. Guests are invited.
