Plant 225 Trees
on Hertz Yahrzeit

On the occasion of his first
Yahrzeit, members of the fam-
ily of the late David Hertz have
planted 225 trees in the David
Hertz Grove in Israel. A garden
of 100 trees was planted by
Mrs. David Hertz and Mr. and
Mrs. Oscar Hertz, another gar-
den of 100 trees was planted
by Dr. and Mrs. Louis Jaffe,
son-in-law and daughter of the
late Mr. Hertz, and 20 trees by
another son-in-law and daugh-
ter, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Snider.
Trees also were planted in
commemoration of the Yahr-
zeit by Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Bonin.
The David Hertz Grove of
1,000 trees was inaugurated
through the Jewish National
Fund, upon the death of Mr.
Hertz, a year ago, by family and
friends. The late Mr. Hertz was
an active member of many or-
ganizations, including the Tur-
over Aid and the Sholem Alei-
chem Institute.

Louis E. Rudner, prominent
Flint Jewish leader, died Oct.
14 at the age of 58. Rabbis Wil-
liam Sajowitz and Philip Kieval
of Flint offici-
ated at funeral
services at
Clover Hill.

was married
to Edith Shet-
zer, daughter
L. E. Rudner of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Issac Shetzer, of De-
troit, in 1947. He is survived
besides his wife by twin sons,
Charles and Stephen. Their
Flint residence is at 1407 Brook-
wood Dr.
A member of Congregations
Beth Israel and Beth El of
Flint, Mr. Rudner was an active
leader in all community affairs
and was among the outstanding
state leaders in the United Jew-
ish Appeal. He was active in
the Flint Jewish Community
Council, Red Feather cam-
paigns and activities in behalf
of Israel. He was associated
with the Elks .

Prof. Klausner
Dies; Was 84

JERUSALEM (JTA)—Profes-
sor Joseph Klausner, noted Jew-
ish scholar, who wrote more
than 60 books on history, phil-
osophy and education, died here
Oct. 27 after a prolonged ill-
ness. He was 84 years old.
Born in Russia, he was one
of the pioneers of the Zionist
movement there. He studied at
Heidelberg University in Ger-
many and was Assistant Profes-
sor at the Odessa University in
the years 190'7-19. After attend-
ing the first and subsequent
World Zionist Congresses, he
settled in Palestine in 1919,
where he later became Profes-
sor at the Hebrew University
in Jerusalem.
In January 1949, following
the death of President Chaim
Weizmann of Israel, Prof. Klaus-
ner was nominated to the Presi-
dency of Israel. However, he
declined the nomination in fa-
vor of President Itzhak Ben
Zvi. He was the author of nu-
merous books, editor of many
anthologies and contributor to
several encyclopedias. Among
his works are a six-volume His-
tory of Modern. Hebrew Litera-
ture, a five-volume History of
the Second Temple, 12 volumes
on Plato, and a book on Jesus
was translated into many lan-
guages.

Mrs. D. H. Gilbert Dies at 26 Mother of Dr. Kazdan Dies
Mrs. Janet Weingarden Gil-

bert, of 19334 Pinehurst, died
last Friday at the age of 26.
Funeral services were held Sun-
day at Kaufman Chapel.
Mrs. Gilbert was graduated
from the Wayne State Univer-
sity college of education and
taught school in Ann Arbor
prior to her marriage to Dr.
Daniel H. Gilbert.
Besides her husband, she is
survived by a son, Steven; a
daughter, Julie; parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Nathan Weingarden;
and a sister, Mrs. Murray Shek-
ter.

"Peace of Mind Protection"

Mrs. Rose Kazdan, mother of
Dr. Morris Kazdan, a member
of the Allen Park City Coun-
cil, and Dr. Louis L. Kazdan,
died last Sunday night at the
age of 79.
She was deeply interested
in the community's religious
activities and was a member
of Congregation Beth Shmuel.
Surviving her also are two
other sons, Samuel and Her-
man; a daughter, Mrs. Tillie
Sturman; two brothers, a sis-
ter, 15 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
