only minor damage, but creating a wave of indignation throughout the city.
Although police view the crime with great seriousness, because of the obscene, anti-Semi-
tic expressions used by the vandals, they are inclined to think the work is a pre-Hallowe'en
prank by teen-agers.
It is signficant that the only area on which writing and obscenities were smeared was

Morris Garrett and Abe Kasle Get National Awards
Morris Garvett, one of Detroit's most prominent attorneys, former presi-
dent of the Jewish Community Center and for eight years chairman of the
education division of the Jewish Welfare Federation; and Abe Kasle, presi-
dent of the United Hebrew Schools and a former chairman of the Allied Jew-
ish Campaign, have been named to receive the national Edwin Rosenberg
Awards at the 27th General Assembly of the Council of Jewish Federations
and Welfare Funds, to be held Nov. 13-16 in Washington, D.C. The Rosenberg
Award has been established "to give merited recognition to lay and pro-
fessional leaders for outstanding achievement in Jewish communal service."
The two Detroit leaders were selected for the award in recognition of their
devoted efforts for the advancement of Jewish educational activities in De-
troit. Their services in support of Jewish cultural projects, during the past
two decades, reached their highlights in the expansion of the programs of
the United - Hebrew Schools as the central communal school agency, and
the awards voted to them are interpreted also as a tribute to the accom-
plishments of the United Hebrew Schools. A large delegation of Detroiters
will participate in the CJFWF assembly sessions and they will be present
at the awarding of the year's outstanding honors to Messrs. Garvett and Kasle.
