Wayne Publishes Guide
for Reviewing of Books
Wayne State University Press
has issued an interesting guide
for book reviewers. As part of
the university studies, the WSU
Press has just published "Re-
views in Library Book Selec-
tion" by Prof. LeRoy C. Merritt,
Dean Martha Boaz and Kenneth
S. Tisdel, University of Mis-
souri's associate librarian. The
foreword is by Maurice F. Tau-
ber, editor of College of Re-
search Libraries.
The reader is guided in the
selection of books for review,
length or brevity of a review,
the nature and pattern of re-
views, reviewing of fiction as
well as non-fiction and other
problems related to good re-
viewing.
Hot dogs and refreshments
and an evening of fun and so-
cializing marked this year's
Freshman Wiener Roast, held
on the Mumford field as an
annual project of the Mumford
Parents' Club, to get ninth and
tenth grade students ac-
quainted.
Two major projects spon-
sored by the Student Council
will get under way next week.
"IVI" week will commence on
Oct. 6 through Oct. 10 to pro-
mote sportsmanship and raise
school spirit. The week will
be highlighted by the sale
of Mumford banners and shak-
ers in the halls, a pep rally in
the auditorium before the
Mumford-Pershing f o o t b all
game, and will be climaxed by
an informal dance, "The Kick-
off," on Oct. 10, in the school
gym. Tickets for the dance are
$1 apiece and can be pur-
chased through any IMSSC or
Student Council member.

In its first football contest
of the season, the Mustangs
trounced the Mackenzie Stags,
26-18.

All Mumford students and
clubs are urged to participate
in the semi-annual Detroit Pub-
lic School Clothing Drive be-
ginning Oct. 6 and continuing
through Oct. 17. The City's
goal for this semester's drive
is 300,000 pounds.
