MISS SALLY LYONS

Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim F.
Lyons, of Windsor, Ont., an-
nounce the engagement of their
daughter, Sally Rosaline, to Dr.
Victor S. Horvitz, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Alexander Horvitz, of
Chicago, M.
The bride-elect is a graduate
of the Grace Hospital school of
medical technology, and is a reg-
istered member of the American
Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Dr. Horvitz graduated from
the University of Illinois col-
lege of medicine, and is pres-
ently a resident surgeon at
Grace Hospital. An Oct. 26
wedding is planned.

Labor Zionist Parley
on School Program;
All Branches to Attend

With the increase in enroll-
ment adding to interest being
shown in the United Jewish
Folk Schools, a record attend-
ance is predicted for the an-
nual school conference, to be
held Sunday, at the Hayim
Greenberg Center, 19161 Schae-
fer.
All branches of the Poale
Zion, Farband and Pioneer
Women will be represented at
the conference,.which begins at
10 a.m., it was stated by Ben
Harold, conference chairman.
After Harold's opening re-
marks, the conference will hear
reports from teachers on sub-
jects, methods and textbooks
and an outline by Movsas Gold-
oftas, principal on the school's
curriculum and philosophy.
Other addresses will be made
by Gerald Nakell and Harry
Mondry, chairman of the school
board.
Following luncheon at 12
noon, there will be a symposium
on "How the United Jewish
Folk Schools Serves the Move-
ment and the Community." An-
other topic of discussion will be
"Does the School Curriculum
Meet the Needs of Our Youth?"
All members of the Labor
Zionist movement are eligible
to attend.

Booklets Give
Contest Rules

Ten thousand booklets an-
nouncing literary and poster
contest rules for the sev-
enth annual Jewish Book
Fair, have been distributed
to children in Hebrew and
religious schools and to
Jewish Community Center
members.
The attractive blue and
white booklets, illustrated
by Marilyn Rosenthal, also
contain greetings from Book
Fair chairman Morris Gar-
vett, and a number of rec-
ommended reading lists for
all age groups.

Mrs. Morris Adler, who has
completed 20 years of "dedi-
cated and untiring work" to the
Sisterhood of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, will be guest of honor at
the Sisterhood's opening lunch-
eon meeting at 12:30 p.m., Oct.
13, in the synagogue social hall.
Members are urged by Mrs.
Joseph H. Deutch, president, to
bring their friends. Luncheon
reservations, which must be
made by Thursday, can be called

The wife of Rabbi Morris
Adler, Shaarey Zedek spiritual
leader, Mrs. Adler has been
identified with
numerous phi-
lanthropic and
service organi-
zations during
her past two
decades in De-
troit.
Among t h e

now occupies
are chairman
o f recruiting Mrs. Adler
for the Shapero School of Nurs-
ing and adviser to the Michigan
branch of the National Wom-
en's League, the Israel Bond
leadership division and Ameri-
can Jewish Congress.
A charter member of the
Women's Division, Jewish Wel-
fare Federation, Mrs Adler is
a board member of the National
Women's League, member-at-
large of Hadassah, board mem-
ber of the Jewish Children and
Family Service and a founder
of the Women's Division, De-
troit Round Table.
She is a past president of the
Detroit Chapter of Hadassah,
and a leading speaker before
women's groups in the commu-
nity.
Mrs. Louis Tatken, chairman
of the day, advises that Emma
Schaver, soprano, a member of
the Sisterhood, will be guest
soloist. Major speakers will be
Mrs. Joseph H. Ehrlich and
Rabbi Adler.

Bnai Moshe Sisterhood
to Hear Book Review

Mrs. Harry Markle, president
of the Bnai Moshe Sisterhood,
announces that a book revue
of Sara Kazdan's book, "Love
and Knishes,' will be given
by Mrs. Adolph Karp, of Pitts-
burgh, Pa., at-a meeting planned
for 12:30 p.m., Oct. 13 in the
synagogue social hall.
Mrs. Karp, five-time-president
of Ahavath Achim Sisterhood
in Carnegie, Pa., is active in
civic and communal affairs in
her home state, and is a past
recording secretary of the West-
ern Pennsylvania Branch of
the Women's League, United
Synagogue of America.
Plans also are- being made
for a bazaar and fun-fest. to
take place Oct. 19, in the syna-
gogue scoial hall. A sneak pre-
view for adults is being planned
for Oct. 19, according to Mrs.
Fred Weiss, chairman.

Habonim, Labor Zionist Youth,
announced the election of the
following officers for the corn-
ing year: Jerry Kutnick, presi-
dent; Ora Kutnick, educational
director; Norman Shiffman, ac-
tivities director; Marcia Robbins,
Estelle Levine, Daniel Kutnick,
Bruce Kutnick and Arnold Is-
ner, education committee; Doris
Kendler, editor-in-chief of news-
paper; Sheldon, Wecker, Mar-
shall Rubin, Arnold Isner, Diane
Steinhardt and Michelle Kuvit,
newspaper staff; Martin Fealk,
Carol Levine, Estelle Levine and
Caleb Simons, secretaries; Alvin
Rose, treasurer; Rhea White,
rosh moadon; and Diane Stein-
hardt, funds director.
As part of Habonim expanded
activities, group meetings and
activities for boys and girls, 11
to 14, will be held from 2 to 5
p.m., Sundays.
An oneg shabbat will be held
this evening at the Hayim Green-
berg Center, 19161 Schaefer, to
welcome home members Lenny
Maslowsky, Marshall Rubin and
Norman Shiffman who have re-
turned from a year in Israel,
and to bid farewell to David
Feinberg w h o is leaving for
Israel.

return in a month. Haas will be
back in time to resume his CBC
