of $300,000 in Bond Appeal
Could you not find a better
authority than B. Z. Goldberg
for citations on the Jewish ap-
proach to this matter? For a
question of such importance,
quoting a secularist par excel-
lence does not seem to me to be
the proper thing.

Comment on Yiddish Feature
Editor, The Jewish News:
I want to say how much I en-
joyed reading your article in the
Baltimore Jewish Times about
the "dying" Jewish language.
(The Jewish News' editor's ar
tide on Yiddish and a call for
the preservation of its literature
was syndicated to entire Eng-
lish-Jewish press by the Seven
Arts Feature Syndicate.)
I have long felt as you do, but
I blame the parents. It is not
sufficient that Yiddish be a re-
quired course in Hebrew col-
leges and schools; because the
number of children attending
these schools is in the minority.
I came from Russia at the
age of nine with my parents,
sisters and brothers. Their chil-
dren can speak Yiddish, but
their grandchildren can not—
simply because they neglected
to speak Yiddish in the house
when the children were young.
Because a child picks up lan-
guages much easier than adults,
if the parents spoke Yiddish,
so would the children.
English would not suffer for
having Yiddish taught also. I
am now middle-aged and people
are surprised that I have no
trace of a "Yiddish" accent when
tell them that I am Jewish
and originally came from Rus-
sia. I can also read Yiddish, but
do not have much opportunity
