Meets Oct. 11-12
The ninth annual convention
of the Michigan Region of the
Zionist Organization of America
will be held Saturday and Sun-
day, Oct. 11-12, at Hotel. Ban-
croft, Saginaw, Leon Kay, re-
gional president, announced this
week.
D e l e g a t es representing 15
Michigan communities will at-
tend the parley. A full day of
workshops and seminars dealing
with phases of Zionist activity
are planned, to start at 10:30
a. m. on Sun-
day and con-
cluding with a,
dinner session
at 5:30 p.m. A
president's re-
ception will be
held Saturday
evening.
Featured
speaker at the
dinner session
will be Bartley
C. Crum, prom-
inent jurist
and statesman
who was a Bartley Crum .
member of the Anglo-American
Committee of Inquiry on Pales-
tine.
Crum was chairman of the
California campaign for Wen-
dell L. Wilkie and in 1944 he
switched his support to Frank-
lin D. Roosevelt. In 1942 he was
appointed by President Roose-
velt as special counsel to the
Fair Employment Practices
Commission; in 1945 he was
named a State Department con-
sultant to the United Nations;
and in 1946 he accepted an ap-
pointment from President Tru-
man as a member of the Anglo-
American Committee of Inquiry
on Palestine. Out of the latter
experiences he wrote the book,
"Behind the Silken Curtain"—
an expose of U.S.-British policy
in the Holy Land. The Newspa-
per Guild cited this book in giv-
ing its annual award in 1948 to
Crum for distinguished public
service.
In 1949. Crum received the
"One World" award. In 1951, he
received an honorary degree of
Doctor of Hebrew Letters from
Hebrew Union College. He made
20 trips to Israel.
The key-note presidential ad-
dress by Leon Kay is scheduled
for 1 p.m. Sunday. Kay has just
returned from one of his fre-
quent trips to Israel where he
conferred with Israeli leaders
and attended meetings of the
board of governors of the Haifa
Technion.
The Jewish communities of
Saginaw, Bay City and Midland
will be hosts to the convention.
Co-chairmen of the tri-cities
committee are: Sam Jacobson,
Saginaw; Louis B. Harrison, Bay
City, and Leonard Bergstein,
Midland. A state-wide conven-
tion committee is in formation.

cate, headed by Ben Lemberg

gustine, Fla.
The city, called the oldest
settlement in America, is cur-
rently witnessing a boom which

The projected Detroit devel-
