Local Boy Makes
Mark in Polo

The distinction of being the
youngest active polo player in
I the country goes to a 12-year-
old Detroit boy, Franklin Ed-
win Levinson, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Benjamin Levinson, of
18315 Birchcrest.
Despite his youth, Franklin
has already played with such
notables in the polo world as
Jack Ivory, Richard Gibson,
Leonard Foley, Wendell Smith
and Thomas Young.
In the past two years, young
Levinson has played in several
exhibition tournaments for
charities, and only last Sunday
he played in a game for the
benefit of the hospital commit-
tee of the Allied Veterans
Council.
After the game, a certificate
of appreciation was presented
to all the players, including
Franklin. This being the first
award he has received, he
treasuees it like nothing else.
He hopes to attain a reputa-
tion nationally as a high goal
player, thus following in the
footsteps of his idol. Jack
IVory.
Franklin is a student at the
Hampton School.

Nieces and nephews of the
late Mrs. Rose Schneider who
gathered at her recent yahrzeit
unveiling have pledged a
memorial shelter belt to be
planted in Israel, both in her
memory and that of her hus-
band, Samuel, who preceded
her in death.
The pledge, made through
the Jewish National Fund, will
make possible a shelter belt
in the Negev, and serve to
provide protection from pos-
sible Arab attack for new
settlements now being built.
Creation of the project is a
continuation of the work of
Mrs. Schneider herself. Only
a few years ago she had turned
over her life insurance to the
JNF. She also was a big pur-
chaser of Israel Bonds.
