leader in a score of local im-
portant movements, including
the Allied Jewish Campaign.
He was singled out as one of
the three recipients for the
St. Cyprian honors this year in
recognition of his chairman-
ship for the United Negro Col-
lege Fund, his leadership in
the Detroit Round Table of
Christians and Jews and his
efforts to eliminate racial and
religious discrimination in De-
troit's business and communal
life.
Previous recipients of the St.
Cyprian awards included Rabbi
Morris Adler, Sidney M. She-
vitz and the late Dr. B. Bene-
dict Glazer.

JERUSALEM — Except for
minor traffic incidents, not a
single crime was recorded any-
where in Israel on the first
day of Rosh Hashanah, police
reported Wednesday. On the
second day, however, there was
small upsurge of minor crimes.

Syrian Boat Captured
in Israeli Waters

TEL AVIV—A Syrian boat of
150 tons was intercepted by an
Israel coastal patrol boat in
Israel territorial waters near
Ashkalon during Rosh H a s h-
anah, an official r e p or t e d
Wednesday.
The boat was brought by tug
into Haifa Harbor and the crew
placed under surveillance. It
was believed the boat was en-
route from Gaza towards Beirut.
