THE DETROIT JEWISH NEW S -- Friday, September 12, 1958- 30

By American Jewish Press

"Mission of Friendship," a pil-
grimage for peace consisting of
80 members representing Mos-
lems, Christians and Jews, re-
turned to this country after a
tour of Israel and European
countries in behalf of world
peace and inter-faith under-
standing.
The pilgrimage was headed
by the Rev. Dr. Richard E. Ev-
ans, nationally known crusader
for human rights. who is chair-
man of the Interfaith Commit-
tee and president of the Labor
Temple Fellowship. It was the
fourth such "Mission of Friend-
ship" which Dr. Evans has led.
Other leaders on the journey
were Dr. Morris Berger, presi-
dent of the Queens Dental So-
ciety, Dr. Benjamin Leavin,
builder of the Four Chaplains
Pool, ,Dr. Mohammed Kazim,
Moslem teacher of New York,
and Dr. Sarah E. Dickson, foster
mother of Dr. Evans and first
woman Elder in the history of
the Presbyterian Church, who
made her fourth such pilgrim-
age in a wheelchair.
The central feature of the
journey was a ten-day trip
through Israel taken by a spe-
cial delegation to further the
plans for the Committee's "Pil-
lar of Peace" project, the sym-
bol originally created by Dr.

Leavin. which has been widely
hailed both here and abroad.
Besides those already named,
the delegation included Dr. and
Mrs. Irving Lederman and Dr.
and Mrs. Albert Sarnow.
The highlight of this pilgrim-
age was the prayer service held
at the top of the highest moun-
tain around Jerusalem (Mt.
Orah near Ain Karem) on Aug.
10th, the eve of the United Na-
tions General Assembly emer-
gency meeting on the Middle
East.
At this service Christians,
Jews and Moslems gathered un-
der the the leadership of Dr.
Evans and with each following
the traditions of his own faith,
joined together in prayer for
peace in the Holy Land and
throughout the world, and for
divine guidance upon the forth-
coming deliberations of the
UN.

ABE GREEN

in connection with a $1,000,000
loan by the Teamsters Union
was not their client, Abe Green,
president of Rose-Hill Builders.
The Rose-Hill president, who
was chairman of the Real
Estate Division in the Allied
Jewish Campaign, has been a
strong supporter of Israel proj-
ects and numerous charities.
The Abe Green linked to an
unpaid $1,000,000 loan from
the Teamsters Union has been
alleged to be a representative
of the Winchester Village Land
Co., a Detroit concern which
promoted a 1,2'70 acre land de-
velopment scheme near Flint.

More than 35,000 copies of
the Ann Arbor paperbacks were
distributed by the University
of Michigan Press in the first
18 months in publication.
